Hey Pros! How do you output your QTs to insure that PC users can easily see them?

.MOV files come in many many MANY flavors. What codec did you output to? THAT is the big thing.

I myself have had no problems with Sorenson 3 at 320×240.

I output from QT or FCP as an MP4 with the ADSL/Medium setting using QT6.5

And as long as the client has QT 6.5 or higher (free download) it works perfectly.

If he won’t install QT on his PC then try Cleaner, I use it to convert to .WMV for those poor souls with PCs!

I know you don’t want to purchase the WMV converter from Flip4mac, but I’ve got to tell you, since we made the purchase, we have not regretted it. It is well worth it in the long run, and has saved us a TON of headaches. I really wish Quicktime would keep Window$ up to par with the Mac’s, but….

Flip4Mac will enable Windows output from your QuickTime, and it’s slow, but much cheaper than Cleaner.

Hey Shane-

I was outputting through QT as a self-contained/hinted movie. I did the same thing for another site and all appears to be well there.

The Sorenson 3 setting is for direct output from FCP, right? The way I did it this time, I exported through Compressor and took the resulting mp4s through QT.

Based on what you’ve written, it’s better prcatice to export right from the timeline and get streams that way….right?

Hey TIm-

I’m going downtown today to hit a friend’s suite (he has Cleaner). I guess if this type of delivery continues to be what I do, then the investment in Flip4Mac or Cleaner is going to happen. Normally it doesn’t take much for me to get behind any new ‘ware purchase, but lately I’ve wondered if I’m pathological.

I have had luck sending it to ompressor and chosing MPEG 1 video. (adjusing quality using bit rate) Then burn it onto a cd-r. It should play fine in Windows movie Player.

Via compressor, I output to the default H.264 streamable 300 (forget exactly what it’s called). Then I add the following text to my clients preview page on my site:

***IMPORTANT NOTE TO WINDOWS USERS***

QuickTime 7 videos may not play in your browser. If this is the case for you, simply right click on the link to the video and choose “Save Target As…”, then save the video to your desktop. After download is complete, go to your desktop and double click on the mov file. If you have QuickTime 7 installed, the video will play directly in the QuickTime player.

Videos on this site require Quicktime 7.

I also include a link to the QT download page.

If they have QT, but just won’t upgrade to 7, I output with a sorenson 3 codec.

Worst case scenario, I guess I’ll have to buy flip4mac someday, or I have Squeeze 4 for flash flv, which is beautiful, but slow.
