In some rare instances I have created an alternate show open with either less cuts or less motion for the sake of an web encoded clip. In the end the piece held up and looked better enough to justify the change for the encode. The DVD got the full-blast version.

How long is the entire video? You could increase the keyframes and take the bitrate down a bit to compensate.

Command-Option-R will do the mixdown as well…I do it before each edit to tape.

For a custom enclosure I found a little gem is StorCase.com and they will make an enclosure to your specifications. Mine has run continuously for 2 years without a hiccup….I’m going to knock wood now.

We have the samson and it worked right out of the box…it is heavy and well built….everyone who has seen and heard it is impressed. Works great for scratch tracks.

It looks like a pretty expensive add on. Kind of a slick external enclosure. Nice design and all, but pricey.

Looks cool, but also looks like a high priced external enclosure. I wish they had one as a case with a power supply that we could configure as we like.

Could work for some however.

How to get Multiplexed files when encoding as mpeg-1 or mpeg-2
Solution

When encoding with Cleaner as an mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 clip,
you may end-up with two separate files.

ex: One Video file ( .mpg ) and one Audio file ( .wav ).

You may want to have those files multiplexed (this is also known as muxed).

In order to do so, follow this simple routine.

1- Go in the advance settings.
2- Select your mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 setting.
3- Select the Output tab.

In mpeg-1: From the Format pull-down menu

4- Uncheck Video CD Compatible
5- Then follow step # 6.

In mgeg-2: From the Format pull-down menu

4- Change mpeg-2 for any other codec.
5- Then bring it back to mpeg-2.

You will see Stream Type.

6- Choose Elementary if you want separate files

Or Program / System if you want them Multiplexed.

I’ll bet a “fine job” isn’t really good enough, and no where near as good as a Sony 14″ CRT for Standard Def. Remember, the guys is asking to simply gain some desk space and he currently has a behemoth Sony 20″ CRT. Let’s get this guy the right monitor for his standard def needs….get a CRT.

I assume you could drag the old FCP HD app out of the Apps folder, along with older copies of DVDSP, Motion etc and then install the 5.1 upgrade. This might enable you to run both the new and old versions. Has anyone done this? Boy, I sure would if they took my darn discs. Also, has anyone tried making a safety backup of their discs before sending them in using Carbon Copy Cloner etc. Seems only fair that we would have that option in case something went horribly wrong with the 5.1 upgrade.

With the Studio apps with so many components involved, I don’t like the idea of completely surrendering my old version, installing over it, essentially deleting it, and then hoping that everythingn turns out ok…not to mention that every project you open becomes a 5.1 project…no going back….

Anyone with real world experience here?
