Hey, if the 20″ Sony is too big and boxy, why not just downconvert to the 14″ Sony CRTs. They look spectacular with all SD video and will show you all that chroma crawl or field issues before you send it to tape. They are a rock solid product and you can probably find one for about $400-$500. I would not buy ANY LCD or other flat panel for SD work as a monitor. Stick with a CRT. It is the only monitor that will show you true interlaced video and will reveal field issues right away.

Lose the 20″ CRT, sell it on ebay, and with the money, buy a 14″ and have money left over.

Green is better in almost all digital acquisition, and blue is preferred if captured on film.

Also in that link, it alludes that VC-1 is an implementation of WM9. It reads to me that they have updated the WM9 codec to support multiple audio channels (5.1 surround?) and segment encoding, which will provide the best results. It also seems to allude to high def encoding and playback on home AV equipment even for delivery via web/satellite etc. Also, the clips can contain metadata so it becomes a more robust delivery for possibly even stations who want to store high quality high def in a small file size.

Let’s face it…with the game machines ultimately becoming network boxes that can play various media, Microsoft wants to take their codec to the next step in home and broadcast applications.

In the short term, Windows Media 9 is probably the most compatible codec to use for delivery to corporate clients. If you want to encode to High def, VC-1 is probably the codec of choice for PC users once it becomes established.

I don’t believe they have blessed VC-1 as WM10…but they could.

I don’t know..haven’t been on an Avid in a while, but it never behaved like yours is behaving. Is your Avid an adrenaline? It also seems that if everyone was having this sluggish behavior there would be more chatter about it…yours seems to have some serious problems.

If you are looking for a solution to your problem, you should post it on the Avid forum. (I see you did).

Looks like your Avid software could stand to be reinstalled, and a good look at the system configuration.

What version are you running? I have an Aurora Pipe card with RS422 from the card to deck and make frame accurate inserts all the time.

I am not running 5.1 yet, however.

But beef it up to 4 megs, add a second 250 gig SATA internal and you’ll have a rockin machine for quite some time. Make some money with it now and buy another Intel G5 early next year when the second generation machines come out. You’ll be glad you did.

I think there is a preference in the User-Library-Preferences folder for the Batch Processor…delete that and try again.
