I’m looking at USB mics to use with FCP and the VO tool to do temp VO tracks. It looks like the Samson CO1U and the Blue Snowball are pretty nice and reasonably priced. Has anyone had realworld experience using either of these mics with FCP?

To Jump onto this thread, We are looking at an Alesis USB mixer for the same purpose as we already have some nice mics. Anyone had any experience with any USB or firewire audio devices?

For whatever it’s worth, steer clear of the Logitech 980186-0403. Granted, it’s only $29 but you truly get what you pay for. Not that I paid for it but a client has one and ouch!

In further research it seems that with USB mics there seems to be some inheirent “noise” described as tape hiss like. Is this the case? I’m not looking for great studio quality sound (I’ll go to a real audio guy for that) but I would like as good quality as possible.

Well I dove in and got the Blue Snowball. I’ll let you know how I like it.

Got the snowball too…. love it for “scratch work”.

Somewhere on-line someone did an A-B comparison between the snowball and a very expensive studio mic. You could tell the difference, but all things considered the snowball held up pretty well. Certainly well enough for temp work.

Mark,I hope it works well (as in easy to configure) with FCP?

We have the samson and it worked right out of the box…it is heavy and well built….everyone who has seen and heard it is impressed. Works great for scratch tracks.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Samson. I’m assuming you’re talking about the C01. Looks like a great deal. Might have to pony up for that one.
