there are a lot of threads about rendering, rendering times and how to optimize them.
The scene you have is pretty big and its being rendered HD. This stuff takes time. There are tons of things you can do to speed up the render but if you need to know what you are looking for.If you are in an office take advantage of NET RENDER it ships with C4D (for the most part) you might be able to render on three machines or is you have studio you can render on them all.
You could also look into a render farm. I have used these two with out issues:https://www.rebusfarm.com/

It would help to see a wire frame.

Since you are using a primitive you cannot change the axis.
You could however put it in a null object and then Scale the null. It will then scale from the nulls location./Randy

Try the Formula deformer as a child of the spline. Or maybe the wind deformer.

Personally I have been trying to get the depth of field to be my friend…. its not going that great but in addition to some grain and softening as you mentioned I think its the right direction for me.
I have also been forced as of late to make sketch and toon renders…. that can go along way to getting new looks.

I would guess that you have two objects in the exact same place.
Hard to say though.

I would use displacement in the texture.
