That’s quite odd – I’m not exactly sure why this is the case. Please try this:

• launch AvidFX
• create a new comp
• name the comp in the project window as test 1
• save the project as test 1
• exit AvidFX
• re-launch AvidFX and open the saved comp
• make a change to any parameter
• click on the file menu and you should see Save as an option

You’re doing the right thing – you will need a new unlock code for the software but this is easily obtained by calling into BorisFX using one of the numbers listed on the web site or sending an email request to support@borisfx.com or sales@borisfx.com.

There is no need to uninstall from Tiger before migrating to Leopard.

Yes, but in order to do this you must open and then re-save the effects with the correct path. You need only do this once.

Hi Dan,

RED should be working 100 percent for you with the configuration that you are using. What happens when you click on the banner to enter the RED UI? What should happen is that you have to wait for a few seconds and then the RED UI should appear. There is one caveat though – in order for the RED UI to appear, you must be parked over one of the frames of the transition. Please give that a shot and let me know if it helps.

Hi Derek,

The problem is that you are cross mixing software that was coded for a particular processor and operating system, which won’t work. AE 6.5 is a non-universal (Power PC) application. AE CS3 is a universal (Mac Intel) application. The BCC 2 filters are non-universal, so they will work just fine with AE 6.5 on PowerPC Macs and on Mac Intel systems under Rosetta (although that’s kind of slow) but not with AE CS3. You need to upgrade to BCC 5 to make the plug-ins operate within the AE CS3 host.

Hi,

The problem is with the version of BCC that you are using – you should download the latest point release from the website at http://www.borisfx.com/downloads and install that over the 5.0.1 version that you are using. I believe this will fix the issue. The problem that you are seeing is that the filter is flipping the color channels from rgba to argb, which accounts for the color transposition that you are seeing in the dirt and scratches.

Hi,

The typewriter animation that you are searching for is called “Type On” and this effect is very easy to produce in Boris Title 3D. Here’s how:

• generate the title that you want in Title 3D
• set the in and out points and cut the title into the timeline
• double click on the title to make the controls visible
• move the CTI to the start of the title in the timeline
• in the control panel tab, scroll down to the Text Type On parameter
• add a keyframe for this parameter and set the value to 0
• move to the end of the title in the timeline
• add a keyframe for the Text Type On parameter and set the value to 100

The title will now appear in a typewriter fashion.

Regarding the position of the title – you can control that in the title generator window in so far as you can set the justification and leading etc but the rest of it is controlled in the FCP canvas window. Set the viewer to display image + wireframe and you can move items interactively on the screen.

Hi,

You should be able to have a video feed from RED to the broadcast field monitor via the firewire out option. Open up the preferences pane (Edit>Preferences) and go to the preview tab. Then set the External Monitor Output to Firewire. Then close the preferences pane and select Preview>Connect to External Monitor and you should be all set.

There are many tutorials that can walk you through the paint system in Boris RED – I would suggest going over a couple of them and in 15 – 30 minutes you should be equipped with the knowledge to create the paint-on effect that you are trying to make.

Hi Daniel,

You can instruct RED as to how it deals with global time via a feature called “Keep Keyframe Time” which you can access by going to the Keyframe Palette (Windows>Show Keyfame Palette.) If you want to maintain the current keyframe time, ie if you have set a keyframe at frame 20 of an effect and want to lengthen the total effect length but not move the keyframe from frame 20, then you need to enable this feature. To have keyframes automatically reposition themselves to stretch/compress so that they fit the new length of the effect then you disable this feature.
