I ran into a problem like this the other week. Turns out some of FCP’s easy setups actually get the field dominance wrong in places in some versions. Drove me crazy trying to figure it out.

The exportto dv option doesn’t work correctly with FCP. It comes out jerky and stutters and oftentimes seem to drop frames. Use export to quicktime and select the DV codec for the compressor. Those won’t need any extra rendering in a DV FCP sequence or anything. I use files like this all the time in 5.14 and it works great.

I’d be wary of only including an h.264 version on a website. Not all Windows machines will have the neccessary codec installed to play it.

I would avoid using two pass on the current version of compressor. it take a insane amount fo time for long videos and honestly I think thier 2 pass looks worse than the 1 most of the time

Am I the only one who’s finding MB’s render times insanely long?

If it’s coming that qway straight out of the deck you’re obviously doing nothing wrong. it’s possible someone shot with the “fake widescreen” setting on the camera that just crops the image at top and bottom.

Most actual broadcast in SECAM countries is done in PAL these days. But yeah I’d double-check. For standards conversions you alwasy want to get it done professionally. Compressor will do it but it will take an eon to render and probably not look any good. Get it transferred to a PAL Dv tape. Then you have a good master to work with.

what program are you compressing your media with and what format?

close gap or ripple delete works well but for the future you may want to try using the trim tools. it’s a bit more exact and won’t leave gaps.

Most websites like myspace and youtube actually recompress your uploaded videos into thier own formatting. I’d check thier instructions and make sure you’re using a codec they suggest.
