  • So you’re creating the file then dragging it into a disk image? If that’s the case you’re probably copying it as data rather than a BD. Typically you’d have to use authoring software of some type(encore Toast etc) to properly build a BD that players will recognize.

From what I gather h264 in an .mov file works but isn’t technically supported

Yeah Mainconcept is the option in the h264 blu-ray export in compressor. I’m not sure if I running a plugin but it might be due to also having sorenson 7 on this machine which uses MC as its main mp4 encoder so that may be why compressor is using it

Also if the other system captured using an video interface card(Blackmagic, AJA , ect) you may need to install that company’s codecs to work with the QT files. All the bigger ones give out their codecs for free.

It should also be noted your CPU is a tad on the old side. It might struggle a bit with more advanced editing and rendering. You may want to try working with low-res quality media until the edit is finished then upres it again from tape. Also try to do your editing first and save more difficult effects for last.

You can also play around with the timeline settings and lower playback quality temporarily to get better performance.

Sounds like a field dominance mixup. If FCP applied a shift field filter to the clips automatically try turning it off. if there isn’t one there try adding it. Since you don’t have an external video monitor you’ll have to re export to test it.
Make sure whatever you used to export the dvd file have field dominance set to automatic too.

With the DVD burner I’d say the burner is likely dying. Once optical drives get out of alignment there’s really no way to fix them. One thing I have found though is that some DVD burners dislike some brands of DVD R’s. If you’re really desperate try a different brand of DVD and see if it works. DVD drives are so cheap these days buying a new one shouldn’t be a huge deal.
