Working with FCP6 Movie File
Greetings everyone. I was wondering, and am expecting an answer I may not want, so here it goes… Can a self contained Final Cut Studio 2 movie be opened up in fcp 4.5HD? I ask because one of my editors is having serious quality issues for some reason, and I would like to take over at this point to get the 4 jobs delivered already . I do have the new FCP6 finally, but have not installed it as of yet until I am done with the few projects I’m on at this time. I plan on giving my system a good cleaning out, then I will install the new software. Until then I am somewhat outdated for now. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. 🙂

A QuickTime movie can be imported into FCP.
Shouldn’t matter where it came from.

As long as the codec is one that FCP 4.5 can work with. ProRes, HDV, XDCAM…those won’t work. All introduced AFTER FCP 4.5 was released.
What format are we talking about here?

Also if the other system captured using an video interface card(Blackmagic, AJA , ect) you may need to install that company’s codecs to work with the QT files. All the bigger ones give out their codecs for free.

Thanks folks for your input. I am hopeful I can get the files to work. They are supposed to be Final Cut Pro movies. All I want to do is bring them into 4.5 and chapter the project if not already done, then bring them into DVD Studio Pro for the rest. I just purchased an extra 500gig drive to ship to my editor, so I will post when I get the drive back with the files in question. All I can do is be positive. Thanks again as always. 🙂
