Not where I would have thought to find the older software.. but thanks for that tip. Glad they still have the old versions. Not everyone can update all the time (or should even for that matter… if it’s working great.. maybe don’t mess with it).

Yeah I thought they kept the old versions under ‘legacy’. I am having the same problem. Seems like their website is having an issue. Can’t access any old versions…

I get that too. I’m on Resolve 9.0.1 on Windows 7. I just wrote it off to the software still having some bugs and not being stabilized yet. But good to bring it up so hopefully they can get it back to the standard they had with Resolve 8.

I totally agree with Sascha here.
The new method for linking up reference audio tracks just stinks (in my opinion). The version 8 method wasn’t perfect but it easier and more accurate in my opinion than version 9.
Like Sascha said, I need to see the waveform in the timeline. Either in the color page or the conform page. It used to be the color page and I can see how that wasn’t the best place. So in the conform page then. We can see the waveforms of the clip source audio, but not the reference audio?
Seems like Resolve is setup now for doing dailies and not for full final show grading. We use audio reference files on almost every job. And I find the way to sync them up now to be cumbersome. Also I need to adjust it frame by frame with timeline waveform display. So I can sync up to a cut point for example.
Can this please be improved. It’s really painful and it feels like a step backwards.

Thanks Dwaine for helping with this issue and the suggestion. I wish the readme or website would list current bugs and workarounds. Other software companies give this list and it saves hours of troubleshooting for the customer.. and also banging your head against a wall (ouch!).
But why are there so many bugs? I really think version 9 came out of beta WAY too early and it was a mistake to kill version 8.
Maybe it was done for other business reasons, but it doesn’t seem to be done with the end resolve user in mind. (We all just want the most stable best product possible, and this seems like a mistake to me).

Just wanted to see if anybody could shed any light.
On a Windows 7 system can I run any of the Windows security updates? And can I run the Microsoft Security Essentials? Hate to leave my system totally unprotected if at all possible.
Anybody at BMD or elsewhere install any security patches?

I agree with you on the issue of the saturated GUI. I did see a post where they asked the users if they would like the option for a monochrome interface. I think that would be great and I do think they need to do something.
I do find the colors in the interface to be distracting to me as a colorist. The monitor I have for Resolve is a very big one, so those colors are even more apparent and in my face.
Also my clients sit behind me and I can see them looking at my computer screen sometimes too. I know the colors on the computer monitor confuse them (even though I tell them to look at the calibrated video monitors and not the computer one).
I do think that Version 9 was made to be more ‘cute’ and they went away from the professional market. But maybe that is their goal (like Final Cut X). I do hope they add the option to mute the colors in the GUI or even make it monocrome. Who needs those extra distractions when you are color grading? (Although I’m not sure if they will listen to us.. as we are still waiting for the simple option of being able to duplicate a timeline).
The version update thing doesn’t bother me at all. I actually don’t want to update my software all the time. If it’s working I don’t like to mess with it. Plus you don’t know what might stop working (tracking bug for example).

Agreed. And unfortunate that they dumped version 8 so quickly. 8 was VERY solid and working great (except for the audio bug that we found with UltraStudio). At least support 8 until 9 is solid. Some people make a living with this software.

Hi Mikael,
Sorry to hear you fell for the WS trap like I did. It does seem that the WS board is not the best choice for the Resolve setup.
My setup with the ‘Pro’ board is working pretty well. Most footage will play with realtime playback. Except when I work with RED 5K footage. My system can not handle those files, no matter what debayer setting I have it at. I was told that I need 2 RED rocket cards to get realtime playback with the 5K material. That’s not going to happen soon, so I am stuck with slower than realtime playback (plus the P9X79 board is maxed out on PCIe lanes anyways.. so I’m not sure if a 2nd Rocket card would help anyways).
Also whenever I have dissolves in my timeline I don’t get realtime playback. I turned on the render cache, but I’m still having trouble. I think my RAID might be slowing down since it’s getting a bit full. Might need to clear off files and re-format it.
Also I will say that Resolve 9 has been a TOTAL DISASTER for me. I have been having so many problems. Lots of crashes, windows not doing what they are supposed to, functions not matching with what the manual says, and other bugs. Not ready for prime time in my opinion. I wish I could have stayed at version 8. It was so rock solid and working great…. EXCEPT for the bug in which audio playback doesn’t work when you are using the UltraStudio SDI. And Blackmagic said they will not fix that bug, so I was forced to switch over to Beta software (and the 9.0 release seems worse than the Beta). Painful… very painful.

Thanks for the info Joseph. Great to know that we can keep our 10.6.8 system going. We have the same thing, where the new OS upgrades break alot of our software.
Also I still don’t see what the newer versions will do for us. Maybe for a casual internet system, but most of the ‘upgrades’ didn’t seem to apply to our grading system.
