PPro handles MTS just fine. No need to convert to another format and it won’t help if you do. CS5.5 even has Canon presets for sequences that work great. Sounds like the footage you have was shot at a low bit rate. I think the Canons that produce MTS files top out at like 24mbs and while that is easy to work with the modes beneath that could get really sketchy. Haven’t ever shot anything less than 24 so I can’t say for certain.

alt/option click the shot, delete, trim to fill the gap.

I guess you could edit the project at 1920×1080 and then nest that sequence into a custom 960×720 timeline. No problem adding the graphics then.

Track matte. Composite the half that needs the additional zoom on the other.

No need to unlink audio from clip to copy attributes. Just select (or shift select for multiple effects) in the effects control window then copy and paste to the desired (highlighted) clip. You can also paste copied effects to multiple clips at once.

See what it does inside After Effects. I’ve come across mpeg2 files that would not play right inside of PPRO but would inside AE.

Are you sure there are no errant opacity keyframes on the clip? Try fading a piece of black out on a higher layer and see if you get the same result.

Are you re-encoding from the timeline or are you just running it through Media Encoder? I’ve had things (crazy screen captures/camtasia) work one way and not the other. Try it both ways.

Yeah, I can’t remember back to to CS4 to tell you if it even exists in that version. Sorry.

On CS5.5 it’s “modify” then another flyout for “audio”. It’s really an elegant solution. Thanks Cliff.
