  • Zoom In & Scale Down (while retaining the zoom)

there is probably a very easy method to do the following — but i seem to be having a brain fart.
I’ve recorded a medical procedure with two cameras.
I need to zoom in on both pieces of video to get details of hand movements and the subsequent screen cap.
then i need to scale down the zoomed in video so i can do a split screen.
i can easily scale both down to 45 or so and do the split screen.
but i’d really like to get a closer view of what the surgeon’s hands are doing. to get that, i need to scale in to about 115.
so…i then need to “scale in” the zoomed in video to about 45 — but retain the zoom so i can split screen.
    does that make sense?
i went through all of my available video effects — didn’t find anything that allows me to retain the zoomed in perspective while shrinking the overall video.
    using premiere pro 5.5

    Hi…

stack the clips over each other

you’ll need to use a combination of the scale and postion tools on each clip (as you’ve discovered already)

then on the upper one you’ll need to add the “CROP” effect to reveal the layer below.

    Hope that helps…

Track matte. Composite the half that needs the additional zoom on the other.

i used the distort/magnify effect and it worked.
i have lots more to do and will try both suggestions..
    thanks for the replies.

Distort > Magnify works perfectly. I had the same question – thanks so much for posting!
