We have a project which requires the final file size be 960 x 720, but our footage we must work with is HD.

I am able to make things work in After Effects, but would like to know if there is any way to edit HD from Nikon D7000 and Sony HD video cams in Premiere at that size.

I am feeling like we are stuck “editing” this with square pixel in After Effects – but would love to just export my parts to someone else working in Premiere?

Any ideas or tips for making this work would be appreciated. There is a lot of text/graphical stuff that has to work in this, so it is not easily re-sized without noticing issues.

one workaround would be to create a 1080 graphic with boundary
lines of your resolution you need.

then customize your title safe percentages to match.

you can work in premiere, with title safe on ensuring
    everything is within said boundary.

export it and use the cropping feature with media encoder.

    Thanks for the idea!

We ended up patching together a mask in Avid. I am doing all the pieces in AFX and exporting as AVIs for my partner to string together in Avid and get the soundtrack going there.

I know these people have no real reason for this size requirement, it’s just hanging in there making problems for us.

When we are less under the gun, I will experiment more with this kind of tinkering for emergencies based on your suggestion.

I guess you could edit the project at 1920×1080 and then nest that sequence into a custom 960×720 timeline. No problem adding the graphics then.
