He should convert to ProRes first. Currently he has H264 files.

Current Final Cut Pro 7 doesn’t care much.
It’s not a 64 bit application. They will have to rewrite it.
Get an 6 or 8 core, and invest in enough ram and good storage. G-speed Q with SATA card for example. And a good archive/backup system.
That’s more important than a 12 -core.

Apps like Compressor 3, After Effects CS5, Cinema 4D can really use all Cores and Memory available.

Convert All to ProRes422 in original formats.
Then use Cinema tools to conform 720p50 to 720p25 ( half speed, double length)
Then edit all in a 1920×1080 25p ProRes422 timeline.
Your 720 files will be scaled up.

( or edit all in a 720p25 ProRes422 timeline. Then your 1920×1080 footage will be scaled down)

This issue also occurs when the card hasn’t enough bandwith.

Don’t use MP3. Convert.
Remove mp3 from timeline.
Add aiff.
Copy timeline into a new timeline to get rid of corrupted render stuff.

50 fps in a 25 fps timeline will delete half your frames.
Movement and Pans will suck big time, ,but it’s the only way to maintain speed.

It depends,

Did you shoot the 50fps material to have good slow motion?
If yes. Conform to 25 in cinema tools. Not with the original h264, but with ProRes versions.
You cant change it back.
If not. Çonvert to 25fps in compressor. But you will loose half of your frames. Bad for pans and movement.

Export quicktime current settings
Import in Compressor.
DVD High quality 90 Min. Change frame controls Resize filter to BEST
Import in DVD Studio Pro.
Set track sand menus to 16:9 Letterbox.
