16×9 letterbox DVD from HDV sequence
Hello. I have an HD sequence, shot on HDV, transcoded to ProRes 1920. I’m trying to burn an SD DVD, using Compressor and DVD SP, but my sequence always comes out letterboxed, even on a 16×9 monitor, squeezed vertically, with black bars top and bottom. I would expect a letterbox on a 4×3 monitor, but the video should fill the 16×9 screen. I’m sure I have an incorrect setting somewhere, but I can’t figure out where. I’ve read lots of forum posts, tried lots of combinations of settings, but still get the letterbox. I’d really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance and please forgive me for asking a question that’s already been asked.

Export quicktime current settings
Import in Compressor.
DVD High quality 90 Min. Change frame controls Resize filter to BEST
Import in DVD Studio Pro.
Set track sand menus to 16:9 Letterbox.

Thanks Paul. I appreciate your getting back to me so quickly. Just to confirm, you’re suggesting that I EXPORT the sequence as a QT movie and import it to Compressor, rather than SENDING the sequence directly from FCP to Compressor? That’s one thing I wouldn’t have thought to do.

I followed Paul’s suggestion to the letter and everything worked just fine but the movie on the DVD is still letterboxed on my 16:9 monitor. Would it now be safe to assume that the problem is with the original FCP sequence? I’ve rechecked all my settings. Here are the ones I think might be relevant:
A/V Settings: Sequence Preset: HDV – 1080i60
Sequence Settings: Frame Size: 1920×1080, Aspect Ratio: HDTV 1080 (16:9), Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square, Anamorphic 16:9 is deselected.Anybody see anything wonky (maybe Pixel Aspect Ratio)? I am most appreciative of any and all suggestions.
