    And if you use compressor and you have a 8-core or more machine, you can also create a Compressor Cluster in system preferences/qmaster.

    This way you can use all your cores with Compressor jobs.

    You won’t get the dialog because it’s not a supported realtime format.
    What camera you shot?

    Convert your H264 to Apple Intermediate Codec and you’re good to go.
    ProRes is the best way to go but you don’t have Final Cut Pro.

    By the way. Don’t judge and test your Mac created WMV on a Mac.
    Test in on Windows. that’s where it belongs.. 😛

    DVCPRO HD is a great i-frame editing codec.
    Edit native is great.

    If you’ll have to mix it with other formats , then a ProRes422 timeline is your friend.

    I’ve seen single drive SATA hitachi drives in a MacPro going 100 MB/s ( MEGABYTE/s) a second in Decklink and AJA speed tests

    SSD is expensive and great for speeding up your operating system.
    But why bother to use it as a scratch when 99% of all HD formats can be done on 1 dedicated SATA drive.

    Do these systems perhaps have Decklink cards installed for output?
    I have seen a LOT of crap with latest Decklink drivers.
    Including Out of Memory.

    Check if the problem persists with External video set to OFF.

    What kind of footage/sequence settings?

    Also don’t set your UNDO levels to high.
    FCP can only adress 3GB ram.

    Also check your Still Cache. Shouldn’t be higher than 10/30%

    Hm interesting. I will to some tests with Shake then.

    Compressor is nicer when you use a Cluster ( Qmaster settings )
    This way you can use all the cores in your MacPro in Compressor.

    Yes, and the free edition is not enough.
    You need a pay version ,but then you have complete Windows Media functionality in Quicktime.

    Set your thumbnail caching on your system drive.
    Not your storage drive.

    -Trash your cache files now and then.
    -Copy/paste in fresh sequence.

    I see you adapted my Compressor downscale advice
    Which wasn’t really good in your opinion right?

    I have to say, the FCP downscale solution is nice too, but not as good as Compressor Resize filter;)
