You don’t want to render a h264 timeline in FCP. Or use effects or whatever. Convert to ProRes. (Mpeg streamclip or Compressor) Edit in ProRes. But you should always backup important stuff to 2 drives. G-drives are hitachi. G-speed Q is a great RAID5 product. But more expensive.
