Its not straightforwardly compatible if the 1080p60 28mbps MPEG-4 mode is used – for that you need something like Clipwrap, not FCP’s L&T. Stick to 17mbps 60i AVCHD mode for compatibility.

I chose an older 15″ MBP because of the ExpressCard slot to run eSATA drives – FCP is better with the faster drive access.

I got AppleCare because there has been a history of graphics card failures in the older 2007-8 MBPs:

Lots of different tools, and viewing modes (= GUIs) appropriate to the use of those tools. No ’round-tripping’ ever.

But think about it the other way round – a single ‘application code’ for everything, with appropriately different interfaces for working on differing aspects of the timelined media.

That is what Adobe have been aiming for – no ’round-tripping’ of anything ever, its all the same code, working on the same media, in the same place, but just the interface tools change as you switch work-mode…

Rule # 1 in life: Only write if you are commisioned (= paid to do).
Rule #2: If you are a journalist you get paid per word, so write lots. That way even if the sub-editor junks most of it you still get some sort of pay cheque…
Rule # 3:The sub-editor is paid to read your submission.
Rule #4: If you are writing to a CEO *keep it brief!!@!* He isn’t paid to read your stuff…..

Any CEO isn’t going to thank you for a 456 word email, about 300 words of which are nothing to do with the question that is being asked, but all about the would-be journalist’s life experiences. 🙁

Rule #5: Education is about learning – about life as much as any specific profession.

So: She failed. She deserves to fail – I’m with Steve on this one.

Not an answer, but a comment: my older MBP froze whenever I used Compressor or did a big FCP render until I put it on a flat-bed fan base, which in iStat Pro brought its graphic card/CPU temperatures down dramatically.

When I know that the guy at the other end is (a) working on a Mac and (b) knows how to convert it to fit his own delivery specs I regularly ftp SD stuff (using iDisk in MobileMe) as H.264 with every frame a keyframe (GOP = 1). I convert the timebase beforehand if required.

Looks good enough for rock’n’roll…
