NX-5 log & transfer problem
Posted by Alex Joseph on December 20, 2010 at 11:23 amHello!
I have shot some footage with a NX-5 and am having some problem putting it into FCP.
When I went to log & transfer, nothing would show up. When you look through ‘play’ on the camera, the footage is there.
Evidently, the camera was set to SD mode and shot in 720×480.
Is there a way to still import it?
Thanks and Happy Holidays!

December 20, 2010 at 12:30 pmHi
Do you have FCP 7.0.3?
Quote from the Release Notes:
Final Cut Pro 7.0.3
Adds Log and Transfer compatibility for Sony NXCAM MPEG2 SD formats.

Being on the bleeding edge of technology does have its costs and Sony is notorious fro being slow to market with drivers and updated software. Case in point, when Sony came out with the XDCAM series, it took them a year to get the drivers and software for FCP, then another year for FCP to fully support XDCAM.

July 24, 2012 at 3:16 amHi there techno geniuses of which I am not …
I have just bought a Sony nxcam 5 and shot my first batch of footage over the weekend.
Today I have attempted to import the footage using Log and Transfer via USB but only half the clips are coming up with full blue dots the other half are registering as half dots although it appears the footage is going into FCP into the trim bin/browser.
I am not sure what the problem is. Someone has suggested that I might not have the correct ‘firmware’
I have unclicked ‘remove advanced pulldown and duplicate frames’
And noted that the AVCHD Plugin is importing Apple ProRes 422I am using FCP 7.0.3
Any suggestions would be most appreciated

July 24, 2012 at 11:54 amTwo things here…
One, whoever suggested to check the firmware is correct. Always make sure that your camera is up to date with the latest and greatest firmware.
Second, have you installed the necessary software from Sony to import the clips into Final Cut Pro? Just as with the XDCAM EX series, there are several pieces of software that is necessary to install so that FCP can properly import clips.
Do these things and you shouldn’t have any problems importing your footage.
