Without placing too much importance on ‘rumour’, the first postings about what has turned out to be FCP X, that came in 2009, came in two paragraphs.

Para 1 has subsequently checked out more or less to be spot on, predicting what we would be getting – if you take into account that the NAB 2010 original announcement date was subsequently amended to be delayed until NAB 2011.

Para 2 talked about problems of delivering a fully integrated suite at a professional level – with the conclusion that because to those difficulties this had been rolled on to 2013 before everything would be ready for delivery.

Reverse-engineering Apple’s precise sneek peak decision process leads me to the same conclusion. Apple have said nothing so far beyond “FCP X is coming” because its too early, and there’s still too much to do…..

One possible answer, from the demo that we were shown, is that all the various audio clips that you want to assign to a single ‘virtual’ track you lump together in a single icon in the metadata ‘Event Manager’ (top left on the screenshot), and then this icon could be assigned to a particular audio output channel on your hardware or multi-track Exported track.

Since that’s such an easily-achievable and elegant solution it seems to me to be premature to be running around chicken-licken style to PP or AVid… 🙁

Since we were shown you can ‘range select’ metadata markers as and when you choose, and drag into the ‘Event Manager’ (top left of the screen) I’m sure you will be able to select/drag all your, say, VO segments, or all the sync fx, or music, and (in metadata) assign them as a virtual ‘track’ to an audio output channel…

Isn’t that what has always happened – on old Premiere 3-6 then FCP? The video output to the (single) broadcast video monitor shows a view of whatever you are playing/scrubbing in the interface?

Whilst Color might be completely rolled in to FCP X, surely there is additional need for Motion/Shake/AE compositing, and a ProTools equivalent, so there has to be more, surely?

How long has QT X been out, yet FCP 7 still needs QT 7?
Appleinsider carried a story last year that it might be 2013 before everything in the new versions are sorted…

That delay could be a reason why FCP X is priced as it is – it could be a while before we get the full 64-bit-all-the-rest (though an interim version may appear later this year).

The Intel range of gigabit Ethernet PCI-X cards – MT1000 (or GT1000) 2/4 port etc (which are sometimes very cheap on eBay) – install without additional drivers in OS X Leopard, giving an old G5 jumbo frames multi-port capability. I too was thinking of setting up a server using the Intel card I’ve fitted, with an 8 port Sonnet eSata card (for SD editing) – but I still need to get a round tuit 😉

As Michael said, make a backup copy of the file (to keep original) then use Cinema Tools to Conform the footage to 50i. That doesn’t change the frames, it just changes the fps flag.
