I concur with Peter. My older Sony player does not read DVD-R or DVD+R; however, it can read DVD-R/W disks (at least for a few hours from a cold start – then it gets hot and doesn’t like those disks, either). Try that if you want to.

Yep, that is the work-around I ended up doing. The first time, though, it decided to crash Encore, but it worked the second time. Had to relink my menu buttons, but I didn’t have that many.

    Thanks,

Try going to File->Edit Quality Presets.

From that window you can choose which video clip (bottom left drop down) and then the different compression settings. On the bottom right it will tell you the estimated file size.

Note that as far as I can tell, this does not change your transcode quality (which I originally thought it did). To do that, you need to choose File->Transcode Settings for each clip.

So, the tutorials told you how to create animated menus, correct? I’m assuming you got animated menus working, but are stuck on how to make the button have a bouncing ball. If you are still trying to figure out how to have animation, either review the tutorials or follow-up.

The trick here is that you need two menus. One with the bouncing ball on the first button (Menu A), and one with the bouncing ball on the second button (Menu B). Then, when the user is on Menu A and selects the other button, you have to have that button ‘auto-activate’ to Menu B. Make sure you do the same thing in Menu B when transitioning to Menu A. A ‘problem’ with this solution is that there will be a slight pause as you move to the new menu and any soundtrack or background animation will restart as you switch between the menu pages.

Just stumbled across this while playing with the GPU settings. I think you are looking for:
    Edit->Preferences->General
and then the option to ‘Zoom Resizes Windows’

You could go the opposite way and make it look ‘bad’. Make it b/w or sepia and/or add effects to make it look like archival footage.

    Hi Todd,
didn’t mean to ding you on the lack of the manual. I have worked at major computer manufacturers and am well aware of the lead time needed for documentation, and how much better it is for the engineers to have those extra months for fixes/updates/clarifications that ultimately help the consumer.
All in all, I prefer the web based help when trying to understand an issue. As you said, it is a lot more real-time and the links are very helpful. Maybe when the ‘Kindle 5’ is out I’ll have something easily portable, readable, and up-to-date. I do think we need to change the acronym from RTFM to RTFWP :).

    RTFM? What manual? 😉

I am one of those guys who reads the manual, when provided. I miss the books they used to include with the software. While the html/web version has its benefits, the physical manuals allowed me to actually read them while offline. For some reason, I just can’t sit there and scroll through the weblinks or pdfs in their entirety, especially when they are scattered across different disks and in different folders.

Sorry for going off tangent; I do agree that redirecting the basic questions to the proper forum is appropriate.

May 18, 2009 at 7:13 pm in reply to: buttons not working after building

I have fortunately not encountered this. Here are some things I would try to work around this (assuming it is too much work to restart).

Change the loop point. Assuming it is at 0 right now, make it 00:00:01 to see what happens. Maybe that will ‘kick start’ the buttons.

Copy and paste the menu and use the second one.

If the above doesn’t work, then have your first one auto-activate to the second one.

Have a dummy black 1 second menu screen as your first menu which times out after 1 iteration to your next menu screen.

I ran into this, too, so I’d be interested if there is a clean solution. I worked around it by adding my ‘play’ button as a graphic within my animation (when I wanted it to appear) instead of part of the Photoshop menu. I’m assuming your play button is a graphic and not an actual button subpicture. If it is a subpicture, then you need to change your loop point to the time where you want them to be active and appear.
