you can EASE IN / EASE OUT the position by right clicking on the keyframe in the canvas.

long time problem with this in FCP is position and scale use two different scales.
one is exponential, one is logarithmic ???? or something like that
anyway the upshot is the SNAKE OF DOOM.
you’ll see what i mean when you try it

FCP FX guru Kevin Monohan says he works it out using BEZIER HANDLES in the canvas, the QUICKVIEW window, plus a fair amount of PATIENCE, i imagine
(quickview window is a window that loops a portion of your timeline while you tweak fx)

i remember Tom Wolsky once recommending using the Basic 3D filter instead of Motion Tab.

there’s 3rd party solutions,
such as Moving Pictures https://www.stagetools.com/
and Lyics Pan Zoom Pro https://www.lyric.com/fcp-plugins/index.htm#pzp

and of course there’s now Motion, which is probably worth looking into.

1st: buying n USA vs buying in NZ..

the prices may LOOK cheaper, but there are state sales taxes that are NOT included.
i believe there are 2 states that DONT have sales tax.
New Hampshire is one.
i’d love to go there on a vacation, but if you;re not planning to, it could be an expensive detour.
Cant remember what the other one is.

it’s possible to buy via mail order from these states,
and the great deals you’ll find on-line probably do it this way.
but you’ll need a US credit card to do so.

and if you get a friend to buy it for you,
you could have problems getting your warrantee to work back in NZ.

2nd: The Laptop

i’m an advocate of the 15″
i find the 17″ just too big to lug around.
i work at home with a laptop and a 23″ Cinema Display,
and CONTRARY to what i just said,
in the past i’ve hit the road with my laptop, and a20″ Cinema Display.
those jobs were not “in the field”, but in someone else’s office.

but i guess you wouldn’t want to lug one of those all the way to the ‘states.

the January rumours seem to be about a 13″ model,
but what do i know… rumours are just rumours

maxing out the hard drive wont hurt, i suppose
but mainly to store all the FCS media, and your ever-growing library of music and videos!
to tell then truth, i’m a little wary of the 7200rpm drive running hot,
but i’d also put this in the “What do i know” basket, and get some advice on that.
5400rpm has been fine for capturing and running DV for me, when i’ve resorted to the internal.

plan on getting an eSata interface as well

Max you your RAM, too, but don’t buy the Apple RAM – too expensive!
find some Kensington or Crucial RAM on line and install it yourself.

if they are already rendered in the timeline,
will the reference move will use the existing renders?

“why not export back to disc and then send just the client the MP4 proxy of the edit that will be created by the XDCAM device ?”

it might be that a simple “Highlight” on the player will do the trick.

download this free Vignette” filter.

i cant see you’d be be getting much benefit out of exporting as animation.

export using the current settings,
self contained or otherwise.

i don’t love the idea of FCP doing format conversions.
ties it up for too long.

i’d rather export as QTMoive, Same Settings.
nice and fast,

then let some other app handle the conversion.

yeah, that[‘s annoying,
and would be good if they fixed that.

a workaround is to COPY the original clips and Paste Attributes: Filters.

that works,
but you have to keep a dummy clip hanging around.

i actually think the simples approach is to export the 13 minute movie,

bring it back into FCP,
chop it up into 2 minute sections,
re-export

you could do one or other of the export processes as reference movies (not self contained)
but i think doing BOTH as ref movies would be asking for trouble.

try taking FCP out of the loop

render and export as a QuickTime movie, Current settings.
you can export a reference file if you like

take that into Compressor and try your conversion.
