    hello,

this question could fall into multiple forums but seeing as how it is related to FCP, I posted it here. I have to convert HD quicktimes to avi’s using divx converter. These files are then loaded to a remote transfer device. My producer wants me to export a self contained quicktime from FCP using the animation codec and the qt conversion option. Then bring that qt into the divx converter to get the avi. To me it seems you could just export from FCP directly to divx, or from a ref. movie and get just as good as quality if not better. Its one less level of compression. I was wondering if my producers method makes sense to anyone, or can anyone validate this technique. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this. Thanks so much for your time.

You can make the AVI directly from FC with QT conversion. AVI is one of the options you have in QTpro.

i cant see you’d be be getting much benefit out of exporting as animation.

    export using the current settings,
    self contained or otherwise.

i don’t love the idea of FCP doing format conversions.
ties it up for too long.

i’d rather export as QTMoive, Same Settings.
    nice and fast,

then let some other app handle the conversion.
