Highlight one basketball player video
Posted by Jerry Vogt on November 17, 2007 at 12:38 amI need to highlight one individual on a team while playing basketball. I need some suggestions as to options of doing this. Can I do it with FCP or should I be asking this in the Motion Forum?

November 17, 2007 at 3:11 pmIn this game one team is blue and the other is white. The player that I need to highlight is wearing a blue jersey. I have several games to edit and the color of jersey’s changes with which player I need to highlight.

November 17, 2007 at 8:41 pmYou have some work ahead of you. You can try and isolate his jersey color and see if that works for you, if not, you are going to have so cut him out frame by frame with Motion or After Effects, or other dedicated rotoscoping software.

November 17, 2007 at 9:45 pmwoah there!
it might be that a simple “Highlight” on the player will do the trick.
download this free Vignette” filter.
https://www.haiku.com.au/2005/08/final-cut-pro-plug-ins.htmltweak it to create a highlight around the guy,
then keyframe its position.nick

November 18, 2007 at 5:47 amif you want an FCP solution you can also try the Region Blur filter here:
https://homepage.mac.com/andymeesenable the “Invert” checkbox
set the Blur to zero
choose a Tint Color and increase the (tint) Amount as required
then keyframe the Center control to follow the player aroundhope it helps

November 18, 2007 at 4:18 pmHey everyone thanks for the suggestions. Because the player does not have to be highlighted through the entire game, only a few seconds at different intervals during play. Could I possibly use a oval mask over the entire image leaving this one individual un masked. If so, where can I get some info on masking?
Is there a software tool that would allow me to draw a oval around this player that I could fade up and down at different intervals? Thanks again everyone!

November 19, 2007 at 4:44 amlook at the vignetter filter i pointed you to.
otherwise you can use the Shapes Generator as an overlay,
but you have to change the comp mode to multiply (or screen – i can never remember!)that slows it’s RT performance down somewhat,
but an overlay is pretty easy to deal with.nick
