Thanks!
That does make sense. I’ll crack the code and post up the solution.

I guess actually setting up the client(s).
My studio is an apartment, and I have 3 macs.
I don’t have a server, and I was wondering if I could set it up to render to an external on my main machine.Nicholas Toth

About a month ago when I was freelancing at a studio, we successfully used a Cord Duo Imac installed with Vista and After effects 7.0 across a network. It was quick, but nothing to gawk at.
I’d sit on it. Run windows pro 64 and pimp out your memory, don’t bother with vista now. I still remember going from windows 3.1 to the 95 switch, which was TERRIBLE — i hope microsoft has their stuff together.

January 30, 2007 at 4:38 am in reply to: Rendering grinding to a halt in AE7.1 on a Mac Quad???If you buy nucleo pro, HYPETHETICALLY you will cut your render time down 75%ish on a quad core. If you’re fighting a deadline I’d strongly suggest it.
I have it installed on a quad (2.5) with 8 gigs of ram, and it SMOKES. It’ll generate 4 frames per render pass vs. 1 frame per render pass with the regular engine.Otherwise, set it up to render and either:
a.) Go to sleep
b.) Go to the bar -
Good thing they’re short clips —
I wound up just going out 4:2:2 uncompressed codec — yeah they’re a little big, but they still stream off a firewire 800 drive.
MAN I wish this binary conversion process was easier… -
PCS don’t like DVCPRO-HD, unless you have the software, which I don’t have.
I’m just looking for a decent codec!

January 27, 2007 at 2:22 pm in reply to: large files, 3d comps, image buffer errors….a way to work smarter?I used to work with similar types of projects — 3d scenes with MASSIVE BACKDROPS.
You need to just replace the backdrop. 10k is a little on the big side — it will be a render bear. We tried not to exceed 5k, you can always scale it up, put on DOF, and it’ll look fine. If you’re working in standard definition, you’re definately overshooting what you need. Also, go into your secret prefs. Hold down shift, and go to preferences while still holding shift, and when you get to your dropdown menu, while still holding shift, select secret and tell AE to purge your memory after every 1 frame. Hypethetically, it will make the render take a little longer, but for your investment in time you get significantly more stability.

if you have cash, sapphire or tinderbox are nice.
but you could put your money elsewhere, like in a good matchmover.
they’re nice b/c you can use it in AE and just about all 3d apps… -
I’ll try clothhide — didn’t think of that.
