  • Rendering grinding to a halt in AE7.1 on a Mac Quad???

Posted by Robin on January 30, 2007 at 12:03 am

Hello, I wondered if anyone could help me.

I’m trying to render a project in AE 7.1 There are a lot of layers in the project but no more than a few at any one time (3-5 say). Rendering this project 2minutes 20 seconds in length in Animation codec is going to take over 7 hours???

    What am I doing wrong?

    Surely this can’t be right.

    I’m running a G5 Quad with 4.5 GB of Ram and AE7.1

If you buy nucleo pro, HYPETHETICALLY you will cut your render time down 75%ish on a quad core. If you’re fighting a deadline I’d strongly suggest it.
I have it installed on a quad (2.5) with 8 gigs of ram, and it SMOKES. It’ll generate 4 frames per render pass vs. 1 frame per render pass with the regular engine.

Otherwise, set it up to render and either:

    a.) Go to sleep
    b.) Go to the bar

Personally, I’d suggest the bar. Because once you get back to the machine to find that your Mactel crapped out 15 minutes into the render at least you have a buzz going and you don’t have to go to the office empty-handed right away.

here’s a post by Graham Jones where he talks about how he adjusted several settings, particularly the ram usage settings, in ae7 to get it to render much faster on his macpro. here’s a link to the thread:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/2/891369?univpostid=891369&pview=t

if the link doesn’t take you any place, i searched ‘cache’ and ‘render’ – the name of the thread is ‘AE7 & Mac Pro– SUCCESS!!!’

now i’ll have to give it a try

Thanks for the quite amusing responses guys!

I dropped down the ram and memory settings and guess what? It seems to run faster????!!!??? How wierd is that!

Also the fan isn’t going bananas like it was last night.

Right I’m going to track down nucleo pro!
