Does than mean that you can’t play back DV or 8-bit movies (or any codec other than AppleUC) in QT or BM deck control and see the output on the Broadscst monitor connected to the SDI out? Like you can with OSX 10.3.x and QT 6.5 and BM 4.8?

  • Also I’d like to draw attention to the “Enable QT playback” option being grayed out.

I don’t think this has been answered satisfactorily. If it has, please let me have the link.

And, why does the ext video output vanish in Tiger 10.4.2, BMD 5.0 and QT 7.0.1 and reappear when the same system is booted under Panther 10.3.9, BMD 4.8.1 and QT 6.5.2.

It did, but apparently that goes away if you uninstall first before install.
I haven’t gone back to 5.0b2, tried 5.0b4 but that did’t work too so I switched to a Panther install I had on the same system and all is well.

    And one more thing…
This system has valid ref connected from the house sync, but the genlock slider is also grayed out.

I’ve reported this too, on a G5 DP 1.8 OSX 10.4.1, QT 7.0.1. Uninstalled 5.0b4 and then installed 5.0 and the “newer version” warning didn’t show up. But now I’ve lost video output and the “enable QT playback” is grayed out. Incidentally this system does not have FCP installed since I haven’t got FCP 5.0 yet. Could that be it?

And, when I “switch” to a Panther partition (actaully a separate disk in the same system), all is well so the sard and connections are fine. “There” I have 10.3.9, QT 6.5.2, BM 4.8.1.

  • Clips captured using capture now often come out called “Untitled1”, “Untitled2”, “Untitled3” etc. And the tape name if not specified is “001”. A lot of people have a habit of sticking a tape, opening L & C and doing capture now without specifying any names. And without saving the project first. So the folder in Capture scratch is called “Untitled Project 1”.
They then rename clips in FCP, but outside FCP the Quicktime files are still called “Untitled1”, “Untitled2”, “Untitled3” etc. And stored in folders called “Untitled Project 1”, “Untitled Project 2” etc. Over time, there are tonnes of clips with the same names this way and FCP gets confused.

The other thing is folder paths. It is not uncommon to see Capture Scratch at the root of a drive and one inside a folder called “Final Cut Pro documents”. And some at other locations as people often specify other paths for scratch disk.

So search all your drives for “Untitled” and for “Capture Scratch” and folders by the same name as the current project media folder. If you find more than one of these, then that is your problem.

For plain muxing of MPEG video and audio files try out ffMPEG or BitViceHelper.
Both should work for Compressor files.

OK this looks like a bug. I don’t have FCP 5 yet, but in FCP 4.5 if one put a “Timecode generator” filter on a clip and switched to 16 mm, you god 40 frames per foot and the feet+frames counter incremented to a foot after 39 frames.
I know this is not like the timeline footage display, but at least it understood 40 frames per foot. Make sense?

  • Yes it would seem so and this has ben my experience so far. That being said there is a driver update that is supposed to fix this. I will try this and report if there is any improvement.

  • You can use the genlock on the HD Plus card to feed in n external sync signal which is also fed to the Digi/Beta deck that you’re capturing from or outputting to. Mind that if you work in a large multi-suite facility with house sync that comes through a router or DA, the genlock in HDPlus or HDPro just plain doesn’t work. It gives a “picture roll” every once so often and you need to disconnect the genlock to make the HDPlus or HDPro work. This has been broken since BM ver. 4.7 onwards and I don’t know if its been fixed in ver. 5.0
