  • Filmscribe on non-Avid Macs – again

I had posted this some weeks ago.

I wanted to know if Filmscribe would work on a “non-Avid” Mac. I received a reply that it would.
So I downloaded the Filmscribe Mac version ver 11 (I think). It installs fine on a MacOSX system (in classic) but when run, it works in “view only” mode.
Subsequently, I now cannot find the link I had downloaded it from. I had found it by simply searching for “Filmscribe download” at Avid’s support site. Now the same search yields no download links.

Anyone with clues? Has anyone actually taken Filmscribe either downloaded from Avid or from Avid’s CDs and loaded it on a non-Avid Mac and succeeded in making cutlists out of it ? If so, please let me know how. And, would one be breaking any laws by loading Filmscribe on a system other than an Avid system?

I got Filmscribe as part of the Xpress Pro bundle. It works fine without Avid editing software installed. If you download an Xpress Pro dundle, it should be in the goodies folder, I believe.

    Oliver,

    Thanks for the reply.
Just to confirm. You are referring to an Avid XPress pro from Mac? or PC? And you did load and run Filmscribe on a system separate from your main XPPro system. And it ran and was not in “view only” mode. And you can open a sequence and make a cut list out of it. Right?

    Thanks.

Yes, all recent versions of FilmScribe are designed to work as standalone applications with full functionality for both Man and PC. All of the Avid Xpress Pro installers for OSX contain the FilmScribe installer. It is not part of the goodies folder but part of the main installer. Email me at michael@24p.com and I can get you a copy.
