Photoshop Styles are not fully supported, it’s as simple as that. You can manually build any kind of light glows as shown in the video. For soem tricks and techniques, check my lensflare tutorial here at the COW and study the project files that come with it.

Have you checked the duration of your elements on the timeline? Are you using proxies? Have you checked the distances on your 3D layers? Can’t think of much else. Your setup seems simple enough to not cause any problems.

January 12, 2007 at 6:54 am in reply to: After Effects error: invalid text transaction. (26::386)As a non-Mac guy I would guess that it’s a more general problem with your fonts or the way they are handled by the system. Perhaps you are using some exotic older fonts that do not work correctly with AE 7. The high error code would indicate that this is indeed a very rare error, so you might have better luck by taking this to Adobe directly.

The interface is independant from the projects themselves ever since 7. Your saved workspace should be restored without problems, however. Have you tried to maximize AE’s program window to both screens when recalling your layout? It’s possible AE stores the info properly but since the positions are outside the main app window, it doesn’t draw the panels. If that#s not the case, then just report it to Adobe as a bug/ complaint and send them some screenshots as proof.

Like Ian said, sync up the timing by simple copy&paste. Another way to go about this is to use text layers with Dingbat fonts. By combining a few of those and syncing up the timing of their animators, you can get just as much control.

[Andy Stokes] “I have to now somehow get these translated back to 6.5… Any tools out there to help? Export to XML or something? Any thoughts?”
Noooohooooo. Simply not possible. Never has been and most likely never will be. Simply tell them to upgrade. 200 bucks per suite really isn’t that much (if they have 15 suites, they are not exactly a “small shop” and should have the money).

Like Brian said, if you choose PSD as format, some passes will get saved in the channels rather than as extra layers. A bit useless for AE, so you may wish to use separate images for each pass (disable “Save Multilayer file”).

No. It’s simply not possible.

January 11, 2007 at 6:20 pm in reply to: copying path from Illustrator to AE works only onceDon’t worry, it’s quite normal. It is related to some buggyness in both apps and depends on a set of factors. It’s not always misbehaving and Julian may be absolutely telling the truth, but tehn again we don’t know much about his work. There’s no pattern to the madness – sometimes I can paste entire drawings with hundreds of points, some days not even a simple circle. Just like the various problems with text copy&paste, it remains a mystery. If you want to go thru the trouble, try to get rid of all fills and strokes on your drawings, this often improves things. You may also try to save a copy of your document as a older version of Illustrator, quit Illustrator, start it again and load your file. If you are lucky, you can work this way without any problems. and paste al lyour masks into AE without any interruption.

Your emitter moves too fast. There is a limit to the precision of the interpolation. Stretch out your aniamtion by an even factor like 4(select all keyframes, then Alt+drag), then-pre-compose and use time stretching to 25% on the pre-comp to speed up the animation again.
