  • Workspace not “sticking” in AE7

i’ve defined a workspace in ae7 as follows: i have my timeline, one viewer, info, audio, effects presets and tracker all on one monitor. this gives me max timeline and canvas space.
i’ve got my effects panel andproject window on the other monitor – with another undocked canvas panel. there are two tabs in this panel, one a top wireframe, the other a half-res of my main comp so i can see changes updating in my main comp on monitor 2, when working on a subcomp/timeline in monitor01.

when i close and open the project, my floating canvas panels are GONE. not moved to be tabs in my main canvas window, but completely gone. i can’t find them, and have to open a new view, undock, move to monitor2, twice (i have two tabs on monitor two remember).

switching between projects every hour or so, this is getting silly having to do this EVERY TIME.

is there a trick i don’t know about? even though i’ve saved a new workspace with my preferred setup, the undocked windows keep vanishing when a project is closed/open.

you didn’t see these kinds of shoddy usability issues in 6.5.

if anyone could shed some light on the subject i’d be most appreciative.
    thanks,
    scott.

The interface is independant from the projects themselves ever since 7. Your saved workspace should be restored without problems, however. Have you tried to maximize AE’s program window to both screens when recalling your layout? It’s possible AE stores the info properly but since the positions are outside the main app window, it doesn’t draw the panels. If that#s not the case, then just report it to Adobe as a bug/ complaint and send them some screenshots as proof.

that could be the problem, as when i reopen my project and create a new view, it’s already set to wireframe and top – when usually a new view is set to a duplicate of what you already had. my extra comp windows ARE off the main ae app screen, but i can’t seem to extend the ae app containing window across two screens?
in any case, my project, render queue and effects palettes are all floating undocked on monitor two, so i can’t understand why these undocked windows retain their position properties and an undocked view/comp window does not.

thanks anyway, i will submit to adobe.
    scott.
