I’m trying to create a proper 3D effect with one still picture and I’m somehow losing my background in the process. Here’s what I’ve done:

A-extracted the main image from the background in photoshop and saved to a
    file

B-erased the main image in After Effects leaving only the background

C-I have created four layers in after effects:
    (1) Camera
    (2) Background
    (3) Subject A (one person in the still)
    (4) Subject B (another person in the still)

D-I’ve keyframed in some movement on layer 1, 3, and 4

    E-Rendered it

And my background is visible only on the first frame that I’ve composited. as soon as the timeline rolls forward the original image jumps in to my background and I end up seeing two subject A’s and two subject B’s moving in to place. Where did the background go to? And shy is my unaltered original image getting back into the composition?

    Anyone? Anyone?

Have you checked the duration of your elements on the timeline? Are you using proxies? Have you checked the distances on your 3D layers? Can’t think of much else. Your setup seems simple enough to not cause any problems.

Sounds like your camera whips behind the background or your background has some weird move on it. Select the layer and press U to reveal all the keyframes. Also try taking a look at it from top view.

Maybe you camera’s auto-orient (layer>transform>auto-orient) should be switched off?
