My bad (wasn’t near C4D at the time). The option I mean is the “Ring” checkbox.

Check your Phong Tag. Maybe the angle is simply not set correctly. Also try to apply a optimize deformer. The Metaball tesselation has a tendency to produce artifacts since it’s based on regular intersections ofd an imaginary force grid in 3D space. When the grid becomes very fine, it’s quite possible it gives interferences. The optimize tag will re-triangulate everything and should alleviate those problems.

to provide one more alternative: Get DiTools and use Tessa to generate geometry based wireframes. This is the most reliable method as it works with all rendering techniques for Shadows, Reflections etc.. The only limitation is that it can be slow on large objects. You can get something similar by selecting all polygons on an object and using Intrude or Bevel, then deleting the unwanted faces.

No, that’s actually one hell of a complex scenario. If you really want them to “grow” as in stacking bricks, windows, sills etc., you’d have to animate each single element and then combine them together with proper timing. As a simple alternative, you can of course simply scale the entire group that makes up an object, but by the nature of the beast it’s not going to look particularly cool. Much better ways to approach this are:

    a) Cutting your building with an invisible boolena and by animating it let your building “grow”.

    b) Use the Explosion deformer with animated offset of the force field.

    c) use MoGraph and Thinking Particles to assemble your building from separate components.

    a) and b) require you to combine all your groups into single entities by using “Current State to Object” and “Connect” and are probably the easiest to pull off.

Like Jeff said, “DVD demystified” is pretty much the bible on everything pertaining to the DVD standards. Also check DVD-dedicated forums like Doom9. I’m certain you could buy Jeff’s book as well in good faith, but I haven’t held it in my own hands yet, so I can’t give any further opinions.

Check your Word document if it even contains proper LF/ CRs. Should come in with no problems. As an alternative, try to save your file as text only and Copy&Paste from Notepad or another such “dumb” text editor.

February 13, 2007 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Newbie: simple extrude

The so-called “NURBS” objects only work with splines. Create a simple circle spline and choose the contour option, so it will create two circles instead of one. Then put it inside your extrude object.

February 13, 2007 at 11:09 am in reply to: dvd project out of space – where/how best to compress?

[ktpmm5] “I’ve also tried outputting them various ways thru Premiere, but can’t seem to find a way that compresses them into smaller files (tried microsoft avi, microsoft dv quicktime with sorenson compression, etc). Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks-“

That kind of fiddling is not going to do any good. DVD (Video) is always MPEG-II, you cannot change that. Like Joe said, your options are limited and it would be best to span the entire stuff across multiple discs.
