    Hi Everyone,

My issue is with a metaball object. The meta ball object is made from 5 spheres. When I apply a gold texture .jpg to it and render it, I see some artifacts in the texture. Upon further examinaton, when I pull down the render subdivision to .1 m (in the metaball object menu) these artifacts become a moire pattern.

If I increase the render subdivision to 20.0 m, these artifacts go away. However, my metball object becomes less smooth and boxy.

If I go into my render que and decrease the level of detail, I get the same result. The artifacts go away, but the metaball becomes less smooth.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I need a metaball that is really smooth, with no artifacts or strange patterns in the texture.

    Thanks in advance

    -Frank

Check your Phong Tag. Maybe the angle is simply not set correctly. Also try to apply a optimize deformer. The Metaball tesselation has a tendency to produce artifacts since it’s based on regular intersections ofd an imaginary force grid in 3D space. When the grid becomes very fine, it’s quite possible it gives interferences. The optimize tag will re-triangulate everything and should alleviate those problems.

    Hi Mylenium,

    Thanks for your response.

I just figured it out. I am not sure why, but I deleted the phong tag, and now everything is smooth and clean.

    Thanks for your help.
