3D rotation is not supported. You need to apply a scale animator (X axis) and animate its value. The result looks pretty much the same.

February 13, 2007 at 6:45 am in reply to: Animation to DVD or Tape problems

[dan cooper] “2. transfer to tape (DV) by importing the movie into Final Cut Pro – but the movies look blurred and loose quality in the viewer window (even after being rendered).”

Check your field settings. I’m not on a Mac, but “bluriness” usually means your fields get re-ordered or interpolated on import.

[dan cooper] “creating a DVD using Studio Pro – but some of the movies (not all) flicker a bit and look slightly pixelated.”

Check for broadcast safe levels and apply a slight blur. Since it’s based on blocks, MPEG-II is sensitive to certain color levels will expose problems with fine detail. Slightly softening will improve this, but it will never completely go away.

for final delivery choose decent tapes. Anything below DVCPro is rubbish. Most TV and broadcast centers here in Germany use DigitalBetacam and DVCPro 50. Dunno how it is where you live.

[Antony Buonomo] “It’s nice but I would like a bit more control of the flow, blobbiness, stickiness etc as well as learning how to make it interact with a surface (is this possible?)”

You need Thinking Particles for that. Once you have your particle setup, simply put it inside a Metaball object. This also works with the normal particle system, but the level of control is limited.

February 13, 2007 at 6:35 am in reply to: How do I make creases in a finger?

[Phire] “How can I create the creases near the knuckles however?”

Cut the polygons using the knife tools to form wrinkles, then push around the points. Use edge weightmaps to control the sharpness of the creases.

That’s the HyperNURBS cage. Check your viewport settings. By default they are set to invisible in the “Filter” list, I believe.

February 12, 2007 at 7:32 pm in reply to: newbie questions

[kurt murphy] “I have my output settings for 720 x 486, but in my edit screen the view is much larger (and not 720 x 486 aspect ration). Is there a way for the camera view that I’m rendering from to be thatsize, or at least give me a safe title of my 720 x 486?”

Enable the safe ares in the viewport properties (hit Shift+V).

[kurt murphy] “Also, sometimes when I try to re-keyframe my camera move, the Cooridinates Position, Size & Rotation no longer have the keyframe dots next to them – even though there IS a keyframe at that frame. And the camera doesn’t move when I scub the black arrows to move the camera (although the numbers do change). Eventually I WILL see the keyframe dots if I go to Attributes and come back…”

Might be system/ graphics card related. No idea.

February 12, 2007 at 7:11 pm in reply to: animating a point on a spline…is it possible?

In the timeline window. It’s not attached to the object by default (for obvious reasons) and needs to be added explicitly.

February 12, 2007 at 5:16 pm in reply to: “write on” text effect

[molly] “Hi, how would I do a simple write on effect (without using a mask)? I want it to look like cursive writing on…Thanks…”

Not really. You can try a sinple linear wipe or combinations of multiple instances of said effect, but it’s not going to look too convincing. Some things simply cannot be had easily.
