Unmultiply the flare using Knoll Unmult, XMult, Walker Alpha Tool/ WE Premultiply, Channel Combiner, Compuind Arithemtic, Shift Channel or whatever other effect you deem suitable. Has been discussed a bazillion times.

Your best bet is to apply it to a background object. You may need to use the display tag to override your viewport settings, but it should work. The downside is, that it’s only visible in the camera viewport. You can of course also map a polygon/ plane if you need to fly around it. In that case put it on a separate layer with the camera and lock the layer once you’ve matched them up to avoid accidentally moving everything.

What are the specs of your sound file? Are you using MP3 (which is evil)?

If you search this forum for “scanlines” or “surveillance camera”, you will come up with enough posts. Same for interference/ distortions. As for the type stuff, that is pretty much up to your taste, but should be simple to achieve with a few text animators. Other than that Digital Anarchy’s Anarchy Text suite is still a great resource for creating automated computer screens and stuff.

Well, the easy way would be to get Trapcode Soundkeys. It has a built-in function for just what you want. An expression is certainly possible, but I wouldn’t advise it. It would have to be pretty complex and run in a while() loop, thus being potentially slow. The thing would be to accumulate the values, but inside the loop have a conditional statement – if the next keyframe value has a certain difference to the previous one, it adds up, if it’s below a certain threshold, it’s ignored. I’m not quite clear in my head at 6.30 in the morning and loops are not my strong suit, so maybe wait a while until Colin drops in or someone else has some code handy. *off for the morning tea*

[hunz25] “Ahh well, I thought as much. Hopefully they upgrade this engine soon ..”

I wouldn’t hold my breath. If you’re serious about this stuff, learning a 3D program might be more efficient then turning prayer mills for AE.

That’s simply not possible in the way you want it. ZThere is no way to control the “pipe radius”/ flow radius. You have to use separate emitters for each segment of the path to create the illusion.

February 26, 2007 at 5:24 am in reply to: expressions and rendering

[Quentin Block] “Does using expressions GREATLY increase the render times???”

Usually – no. That is, if you use simple linear linking as in your case. There are situations when it can get slow if you link multiple expressions across comps which in turn are dependent on other expressions, but that does not seem to be the case here. I think your Illustrator layers are the culprit here as AE rasterizes them for every frame if you have continuous rasterization enabled. That can easily choke all memory in addition to the process itself being very slow. You may wanna check that and decide whether it’s rreally necessary to work with AI files.

[Adolfo Rozenfeld] “If you use Windows, then i don’t know, maybe there is some kind of 3rd party extension to the OS picker?”

Nope, technically impossible as the system color picker is rooted in the GDI system and cannot be replaced. Either you use it or you don’t. There’s no inbetweens.
