I looked at all the HDV cameras long and hard. I went with the HVX-200.
It produces a very pleasing image and after you work with P2 you wonder how
you ever digitized tapes!! Working with a laptop on location is par for the course
these days and NAB looks like it will be P2 city!!

  • Jan,
In case I get only RAW .mxf files from other
    HVX shooters, is the LASTCLIP.txt
just the last clip number like 0005RT
and then it adds 1.0 whatever that is?
and then ends with for example 6
    If we had 5 clips?

So on the PC it looks like 0005RT1.06
    on the MAC
    it looks like
    0005RT
    1.0
    6

    Is this correct??

  • So in the CONTENTS folder you have,

    AUDIO
    CLIP
    ICON
    PROXY
    VIDEO
    VOICE

and then LASTCLIP.TXT is outside the contents folder.

It looks like LASTCLIP.TXT is the last clip number with 1.07 added???
How can you make a LASTCLIP.TXT
    if it was deleted???

  • Bring up the info panel to unlock.
One hint: you can highlight all the stuff in
each folder and unlock the whole folder
this way. That way you are only opening
I think 4 folders instead of clicking up
each file to unlock. Dont forget to also
    unlock the lastclip.txt.

    Back-up your files before deleting.

“You’d get a gamma shift doing that David, and an unwanted YCbCr to RGB transform. You should be able to put the Media100 codec on the mac with the HD files, or use something like PhotoJPEG75% to do the transfer if uncompressed is too big.”

Grame, I was experimenting with this. Did excatly a YCBCr QT render from FCP 23.976 at PhotoJPEG at 75%…
Going to Vegas on PC it still looked dark. So I did an RGB render from Vegas and read some where to export Gamma .8 Brightness 5 Contrast 10,
That looked good going to Vegas and I exported a .wmv HD file that looked perfect. I always have trouble with the YCBCr renders from Vegas.
    Thanks

WOuld having stock footage in the Native DVCPRO HD codec be of any interest to anyone? What about PHOTOJpeg .mov that will work with almost any NLE or graphics software??

You can record different speeds direct to the P2 card in 720p 24pN mode.
Variable 12-60 fps. In FCP you use the 720 24p easy set-up.
Plays back the speed you set. 32 looks good to add a subtle slo-mo
60 looks awesome, especially if you experiment with different shutter speeds.
I have shot 48 fps and then speeded that up 50% and it you need the action back to
a regular speed. But whats cool is to shoot 48 and do a ramp from
50% to 100% that gives you the Matrix effect. And then of course you have interval recording which is another topic for discussion.
