  • Incomplete P2 Folder – not able to import problem

    Hi,

I’m working on a feature film and for one of the P2 cards that was copied to my HD, I only recieved the ‘VIDEO’ & ‘VOICE’ folders inside the ‘CONTENTS’ and ‘Lastclip’.txt file. Since I can’t access the complete folders that are supposed to come with it (we’re not sure what happened, but the P2 card was definitely erased so this is all we have left), I’m not sure how to import them into FCP. It would be a major dissapointment if we weren’t able to access the video .mxf files. Does anyone have any idea if we could still salavage them somehow? The .mxf files seem to be clearly in-tact with appropriate file sizes. I tried just copying the content folders of another p2 card, but that only screwed things up.

You’re help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You can definitely salvage them, but I don’t know how to do so with FCP. Maybe someone will write in with a procedure that works.

But if nobody does, and you’re stuck, there are a few things you can do. You could copy the MXF video files onto an Avid XPress Pro system, and render out a QT .MOV from there. Avid only needs the video file, it doesn’t need everything else.

Or, you could probably bring it into an Edius system and execute the same workflow.

Or you could use Raylight on the PC and export an uncompressed AVI from the timeline that way.

Hopefully someone will give you a Mac-based, FCP-based solution, but if not, there are at least three ways you can get access to your footage.

So have you tried to import the Panaosnic P2 and the the FCP rejects it? Just for grins what level are you editing with in FCP? OS X? Quiktime?

So you could try putting the other folders back into the CONTENTS folder. They don’t necessarily have to have anything in them, they may just have to be there. If you have another one that is a good folder, and I apologize I am writing this on the fly and I have to run, but add the other 4 folders and see if that makes FCP happier.

    Good luck,

    Jan

So in the CONTENTS folder you have,

    AUDIO
    CLIP
    ICON
    PROXY
    VIDEO
    VOICE

and then LASTCLIP.TXT is outside the contents folder.

It looks like LASTCLIP.TXT is the last clip number with 1.07 added???
How can you make a LASTCLIP.TXT
    if it was deleted???

    Hi guys,

    I have these files only:

    ‘Lastclip.txt’
    ‘Contents’>VIDEO, VOICE

And thats it. I was thinking about using Avid since I have Xpress Pro too, but I was having problems with that before I was using FCP – I guess I’ll have to go back to it thanks.

Jan: I’m using the latest version of OSX and Quicktime. I’ve had no problems importing anything else at this moment. I’ve tried duplicating other folders from another ‘contents’ folder but it only confused FCP and still wasn’t able to import it.

    Hi,

Do not duplicate the folders from other P2 CONTENTS folders rather just type in the other folders, ie, create them. So as Mike pointed out what they are make new folders with nothing in them with those names, be very clear on all Caps, Mac is very fussy about such things. See if that works.

Still would be curious as to how this happened. If you ever find out, which, frankly I don’t think you will, please let us know.

    Best,

    Jan

Oh, ok. Sure, I can try that today.

About how it happened: still not sure. It could be a problem with the person who originally transferred it from the P2 card although I doubt it. I’ll let you know if I do find out though. Thanks.

    Jan,
In case I get only RAW .mxf files from other
    HVX shooters, is the LASTCLIP.txt
just the last clip number like 0005RT
and then it adds 1.0 whatever that is?
and then ends with for example 6
    If we had 5 clips?

So on the PC it looks like 0005RT1.06
    on the MAC
    it looks like
    0005RT
    1.0
    6

    Is this correct??
