Grasshopper, you misunderstood what Gary said which was
you want to go firewire out > transcoder (box or camcorder) > monitor via svideo or composite video.
This means that you can come out of your camcorder on the s-video out jack or the composite out jack.

I’ve found the JVC monitor I mentioned in my earlier post to be, IMO, the best “bang for the buck” for a mid-size monitor.
I have 4 of them in edit suites at the college I work for.
I’ve recommended it numerous times on various Vegas forums and everyone who has bought one is very happy with it.
The comparable Sony is $35 more and 2″ smaller 🙁
For the price, you get a high res monitor (750 lines of resolution – trust me, this is VERY good), 4:3/16:9 switchable, NTSC/PAL switchable, underscan, monochrome & blue gun switches, composite & Y/C inputs and more.

BTW, Color Bars and How To Use ’em is an excellent tutorial on properly setting up a monitor.

It depends on the monitor. The JVC that I use has both composite (BNC) and Y/C (aka S-video) connectors. Component and SDI in/outs are optional extras.

Why would you consider it useless?
I’ve been using DVDA since version 1 and have no issues with this “problem”.
If I’m doing a render over (approx.) 80. min., I use a bitrate calculator to determine settings.
I know my file is under the max so I ignore the warnings.

It looks like only FX and Graffiti ave upgrade paths from our software.
I’d drop them an email to confirm this though.

Close out any views you don’t want/need.

To save a window layout:

Arrange the windows and docked windows as desired.

Press Ctrl+Alt+D, and then release the keys.

Press a number on your keyboard (not the numeric keypad) to save the layout in that space.

To recall a saved layout:

Press Alt+D, and then release the keys.

Press a number on your keyboard (not the numeric keypad) to recall the layout saved in that in that space.

Which one? Both?
Something else to check is the size of your stills. If they came from a digital camera and you have it set to the highest res mode, it’s possible that the image is someting like 3000 x 2000 pixels. If this is the case, reduce the image size a lot and see if that helps.

Ripple is what you want to use. It should be an icon on your toolbar.
Make sure it’s set (check in the dropdown menu next to it) to “All Tracks, Markers and Regions”.
And as soon as you’re done using it, turn it off again because, if you leave it enabled and forget about it, you can run into a lot of problems without being aware of them.

First of all, you are doing this through a firewire port I hope as USB won’t work properly.

Does it play back properly on the timeline?
If it doesn’t, make sure that you haven’t accidentally inseted a velocity envelope or altered the timeline in some way that would cause this.

Check your project properties and make sure tha tthey haven’t gotten changed somehow.

My final thought is that there’s something wrong with your camcorder.
Try it with a different one and see if it works properly. If it does, then you know your camcorder is in desperate need of service 🙁
