That sounds really strange. Are you using any third-party tools or scripts? Are you running any commands on the mesh (like Untriangulate)?

I don’t think I’ve following what you’re asking for. Wouldn’t you want the lips to move in sync with the audio? If you want silence at first and then talking, you could offset when the sound file plays in C4D or add silence in your audio editing app or your NLE.

  • As far as AE tools to do this go, Paint and Stick from aescripts + aeplugins and RE:Map from RE:Vision Effects would be the ones I’d look at first.

Thanks for sharing your solution. I know it’s annoying, but it is understandable; handling MP4s properly is ridiculously tricky. I was amazed when Cinema 4D’s native stuff announced they were going to be able to use MP4s.

Fields might be your answer. You could do a linear field with a bit of falloff mixed with a bit of noise for randomness and just animate it moving up roughly following the fluid sim. Unless you need it to be really, supremely accurate for some reason.

When you say the surfaces are identical, what do you mean? Are you using the same spline and just moving it up in the y axis?

An easy way to do it would be to use dynamics and the follow position option and that would also let you add some nice random (but art directable) movement into the mix too, if that’s your thing.

  • If you have a matte pass you can use, I’d suggest asking how to do the actual color change effect in the FCP forum. In Premiere Pro, you would use your matte pass as a track matte for a duplicate of your footage that has any of a number of effects on it to achieve the color change. I’m sure the workflow would be similar in FCP.

With the plane cut tool, pressing Esc is the command to apply the cut. Does that do it for you?

If it makes you feel better, this is not an easy question. Having a packed bunch of cubes with different random sizes, but all equaling a specific width/height involves lots of math. The only way to do it that I’m aware of is with Python.

You’re going to need to give us a lot more to go on. Like Blender, Cinema 4D is exceedingly powerful and complex.

Are you just asking for good tutorial suggestions? If so, I’d suggest Cineversity from Maxon. It’s included in your Cinema 4D subscription (or you get a year included with every perpetual license). They have a bunch of resources and courses there for brand new users.
