If your canvas or viewer windows are not set to 100% you are seeing a downgraded image, to see actual quality you must have and external monitor (and video card) and the stills need to be rendered.

How was this shot, is it 25p footage or 24p?If everything is shoot 24p, you should be editing it as 24p, but go back and capture it as 24p not 60p. Then convert the final edit to 25p via a speed change in compressor (audio will need to be done in an audio program so the pitch doesn’t change)
if most of it was shoot 25p but captured incorrectly, go back and capture it correctly. For the 24p footage, capture correctly and change the speed in compressor before bringing it into FCP.
There is no easy solution for cleaning up a mess. Going back to square one is normally the fast way and it will give you the best quality.
QuickTime Pro is the worst thing to use to convert framerates.

Use compressor to convert it to ProRes if you are on FCP 6 or above.

That is only for playback “Decoder”, You can play it, edit it but the compression (what things get rendered to) will have to be set to something different. NO way around that other than getting FCP6 or 7.
DVCProHD or DVCPro50 maybe a good choice for you if you cannot work with uncompressed as you compression setting.

Stay in Progressive, all DVD players will convert to interlace and add the pulldown when needed, but the pictures will benefit from being progressive on Flat screens and computers.
30p will be smoother since no pulldown will be added when interlacing, so this is more what look do you like as a whole. Personally I would go with 24p. IF you want to use 30p set your sequence Field order to NONE before you add any pics and it will be progressive.

That is just the way it is right now, you will see a huge improvement on the next release (most likely). and nobody knows when that is coming out.

General answer/things to check. I don’t use that program.
Make sure that the dvd player and the TV are set up correctly. Sounds like the video is going to a 16:9 TV but the player is set for a 4:3 TV.
Also check with Architect to make sure the video asset is set to display as 16:9. A DVD can have 4:3 or 16:9 assets within the same project.

You have an odd shape and size for any TV.
First understand that 4:3 and 16:9 are both 720×480 (in NTSCland) just different shape pixel. So for the fix have to add padding to keep the extreme wide look you have.
Drop your movie into compressor and add a DVD m2v preset. Choose your video Format. NTSC for US. Then the Frame Rate to match movie, Aspect Ratio: 16×9, Field Dominance to match source movie. Set the quality bit rate as needed.
Jump to the Geometry Tab > Output Image Inset (Padding)
Padding:You will see it adds 108 to the top and 107 to the bottom. If your movie is not progressive you need to be very careful here, the odd frame padding will most likely give you a field order issue. If you are using interlace. change it to and add 110 to the top and 108 to the bottom. This will cut into the image just a bit.
Always test the results before the event!

You really should get over that quickly because you have zero control over camera audio, you don’t know how the camera is recording it (monitoring the mixer does make it safer but still the camera is fully auto when it come to sound. Plus you can do both with the H4n, record to it and send a feed to the camera, you get 2 records for the price of one. That device is probably the #1 accessory in the DSLR market.
