Importing web page screen grabs
I’m really baffled right now. My graphic designer pulled some screen grabs of a webpage and gave them to me in a PSD file. I try to import them into Final Cut and they become blurry. Doesn’t matter if I bring in the layered PSD, or save the grabs in another format (.jpg, .png etc) They become blurry. They look clear in Photoshop. Import into After Effects….they look great – export out of After Effects and into FCP, STILL SOFT AND BLURRY.
What’s going on with FCP?
I’m working in a DVCPro HD720p60 project on Final Cut Pro 6.

If your canvas or viewer windows are not set to 100% you are seeing a downgraded image, to see actual quality you must have and external monitor (and video card) and the stills need to be rendered.

Thanks for the response. I have an external card (AJA) and monitor. And I tried setting the viewer and canvas to 100%. Still soft and blurry. And yes, everything was rendered.This is strange, all other psd or graphic files are fine. Just these screen grabs.

What resolution are the images? What scaling is going on in the Motion tab?
Try saving the images as tiffs or pngs.

I’ve tried pngs, tiff, jpegs all the same result. I’m not at my edit suite as I type this and don’t remember the exact resolution/size of the screen-grabs graphics or the settings on the Motions tab. Will get that info here later.
I’ve been editing with Final Cut off and on over the years since version 3 first came out. Just when I thought I’ve seen every possible little problem, this happens. I’m really baffled by it.

OK, had the chance to play some more and still can’t get good quality from our screen captures in Final Cut.
In Motion tab, doesn’t matter what settings I use for scaling…still looks kind bad. Everything is rendered etc.
Resolution size of the screen captures psd file is 2157 x1314, 72 dpi. I know that’s big, but even if a make it smaller, I get the same results.

You are going from 2157×1314 down to 960×720 so there is bound to be quality loss. What happens if you use PS to reduce the resolution? It might do a better job of scaling down than FCP does.

Was this thread ever resolved? We have the same issue. Trying to capture live screen actions. Been using Snapz Pro but when we add text either in FCP or via motion the video goes soft. Snapz gives us .mov at 25fps (we are in the UK) but no apparent depth or bit rate options. Any clues out there or tools we can buy?
