P is for progressive footage and I is for interlace footage. P preserves the 1/25th motion during effects renders of wipes, title scrolls, etc. and is good when needing to deliver to broadcast as well as film. I allows for visually smoother wipes, scrolling titles, etc. since it is done on fields and not frames (1/50th) and if your only need is broadcast in PAL regions, this is a fine way to go.

Avid does not put any aspect ration flags in the QT. That needs to be set manually in the MPEG2 encoder before encoding.

Why not recapture at 1:1 resolution and hit “play” You will get a nice 30i sequence out the analog/digital outputs with a continuous 2:3 pulldown cadence.

If not, the EDL conversion is the only way to go. See: https://www.24p.com/30_24.htm

It is for 30 to 24, but the steps are the same –

You can output 59.94 with a 2:3 pulldown from a 23.976 timeline over FireWire when working in native DVCPRO 100. You need to be in green/green mode to do so.

Use the Pan and Zoom function. See Use Manual on its use.

There are several ways to work… there is the “Send to”, I am just used to creating a QT ref and controlling the parameters of the encoder myself in Sorenson Squeeze.

I am not a fan of the encoder inside iDVD as far as quality – I use third party software to first encode the MPEG2 file, then author in a DVD authoring application.

I do a QuickTime Reference export. How does your Quicktime look when exported? If that looks fine, then it is the encoder.

Turn off tracks you don’t want removed, then hit the delete key. It will ask if you want to delete the track or not. Click OK.

June 9, 2007 at 11:27 am in reply to: HELP! Syncing Audio and Video on Xpress Pro

It’s called AutoSync – if there is no common timecode anywhere, it can be done manually.

    1. Mark in at clap on video only clip
    2. Mark in at clap waveform on audio only clip

Bin menu – AutoSync – check based on IN and click OK

You can then slip by 1/4 frame fro tighter sync if in 35mm project.

The user guide or online help should have a good description on that – do a search on AutoSync.
