You currently cannot relink clips to media created via REDCINE X and Media created via AMA (or linked to) due to the source ID existing in two different area of the file. REDCINE puts it in TAPE and AMA puts it in SOURCE FILE.

There is work being done to allow those two source to be used for cross linking as needed.

  • There are no tools or plug-in at this point to do individual eye control for frame packed stereo 3D (same frame containing both eyes).

go to “Set Bin Display” for the bin in which the sequence resides. Turn on bottom selection (not in front of system right now), something about clips created by user or something to that effect. There are two check boxes together – just make sure they’re both active. Click OK, save bin and you will see all the source clips that made up the sequence. Drag to another bin, put your bin settings display back to what they were.

You now have all your sources, use bin columns to find all related metadata.

KeyKode is not needed to define a pulldown phase. Pulldown is the relationship between the image cadence and the video 29.976 (59.94 fields) of video. In non drop 30fps, the recommended practice is to have the “A” frame fall on timecodes ending on :x0 and :x5.

But drop frame timecode is not consistent so you can’t just start anywhere in the video signal and assume a correct capture. At best, the first frame of picture at 01;00;00;00 “should” be an “A” frame, but not guaranteed.

You can always do a 23.976 conversion of your edited master if the DVD must be a native 23.976/24 with the player inserting the pulldown to create NTSC. Other than better encoding from 23.976 sources there is not a whole of of additional value with mixed sources.

  • You may want to try MetaCheater to create an ALE where you can edit a TAPE ID to match and then use relink to selected in MC for the conform.

January 21, 2011 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Exporting XML from AVID, Import into Final Cut Pro

It’s not so much that’s it weak, it just requires an extra step to generate and offers more types of lists as XML such as Pull, Scene Pull, Change list, etc. which can cause some confusion.

The bigger issue is that XML is not a one type file description. It allows for easier description of metadata by allowing the tage to live with the description. But what FCP calls Reel, Avid calls Tape so there needs to be an XML to XML translator file called an XSLT to get moving in that direction.

Also, the XML from Avid is as complete as FilmScribe offers, so deep effects and others are not as richly described as one may want to have.

AAF is the easier way to go right now for this type of workflow. XML from Avid is being used on large feature type prodcutions to parse the type of metadata used in those workflows.

Well yes and no, depending on overall workflow. Different strokes for different folks. It is easier to deal with the mix track when there are ISO mikes on each character, or one for boom, and some for lav’s etc. The editor will work with the mix until scuh a time that they want to go to the ISO for whatever reason. Also reduced the number of tracks needed, track patching etc, during the initial creative edirorial phase. This is also common when there is a separate sound editing team (dialog editor) who is going to go and do all that smoothing out and replacement as needed anyway.

Typically the mix track and the ISO tracks are already part of the BWF file being imported into the system. They are not created afterwords. Media Composer has no facility to create a mixdown track with relational reference to the original source and maintain all source metadata.

A 4 track recorder will allow 3 ISO and a mixdown, while an 8 track recorder will do 7 ISO and 1 mix. Is this not what the on set audio person did?

This makes it easier to get storage size and needs and compare them side by side:

Is the source clip 23.976 or 24? You want to bring the clip into a project with matching frame rate. Does the source clip have audio, or are you syncing with another file once imported? If separate, what are the settings set to for audio import?

Do you get the same results if not using AMA and just importing directly?

Is 31 frame calculate out to being .1% of total duration of clip?
