    Hey all,

I’m wondering if anyone has tried this. I’m transcoding MXF175X out of Red Cine X, Obviously this takes time. In the mean time I was wondering if I AMA the proxy files I (or R3D) I could start the syncing of dalies and when the transcode is done relink the AutoSync proxy/R3D clips to the new MXF and eventually link back to the R3Ds via EDL for coloring.

Just wondered if anyone has tried this. I thought I’d be productive during the transcoding process.

    Thanks!

    Hi Whitney

    2 things..

    1. as long as a file has the same number of tracks, duration and name
you can simply replace it in the volume and it should reconnect

as red shots come in folders, you will have to manually place the new files (same name) in the corresponding folders.

avid might be able to rescan the drive (with original files hidden or not on it) and reconnect the files, however, this won’t be automatic

didn’t try this specific workflow, but it seams it should work

    2. why not try this (if still possible)
mount all RED volumes via AMA
inside avid make your logging decisions. you can even rename
if you need a specific look you can load one you’ve made in REDCINE or REDALERT by right clicking a file (or files) in the bin and selecting “set source settings”
then transcode in avid, you can chose a lower DNX if its a long project with a lot of footage, you can always reconform your sequence to originals (R3D) and then transcode it to higher DNX

or just transcode once to 175x and keep working
i think it might be faster than the way you use now

    hope this helps

    Thanks!

I was trying to keep transcoding outside of Avid (RedCine) So I could still work. It sounded too good to be true. I think by syncing audio files to the AMA video would change the amount of tracks and not link up. It’s what I get for trying to do 2 things at once 🙂 I’ll go back to the traditional transcode and then sync 🙁

Tho I’ll test this for a bit and repost if I come up with something. There’s gotta be a way!

    it should still work

you will reconnect to the original file, which had the same amount of tracks, which should change the modified clip with the synced tracks

    at least i hope…

test one clip and let us know?

I will test tonight and let you know!

The video doesn’t have any audio so it’s just V1. I figured when I synced sound it was adding tracks that didn’t match up since none were there. Only need the video changed. We shall see what happens.

    Thanks

You currently cannot relink clips to media created via REDCINE X and Media created via AMA (or linked to) due to the source ID existing in two different area of the file. REDCINE puts it in TAPE and AMA puts it in SOURCE FILE.

There is work being done to allow those two source to be used for cross linking as needed.

    michael,

i didn’t suggest he can relink,

    but replace

by creating the same file via redcine then placing it in the red shot folder instead of original… AMA should replace if tracks, name and duration are the same.

HOWEVER… i didn’t remember that the originals are .r3d and not .mxf or .mov
therefore my trick would probably not work

honestly, with the new MC, i hardly use REDCINE or REDRUSHES for transcoding
i think the best new companion becomes STORM 🙂

I will be more interested in Storm once there is native Avid support… 😉

ok… not native yet, not as it is with fcp
    but its only a beta.
and it can shorten r3d files.
which is my main interest with it currently 🙂

Yes. Looking forward to expanded file and NLE support. But as an FYI, REDCINE also truncates .r3d files as well as create a single frame as .r3d to send off and a DP could create a new RMD file to be added to the post process.
