It’s an option that only works with Media Composer. Same with PhraseFind.

Same commands as enlarging frames in bin work in ScriptSync. You cannot directly edit a script, but can edit line(s) by copy/pasting in and out of ScriptSync to a text editor.

July 28, 2011 at 4:57 pm in reply to: Audi Pull down in AVID

I suspect your Canon files are really 23.976? If so, there is no need to pulldown audio – it will play in sync since 48kHz is 48kHz. When importing the audio, and if BWF, you will be prompted for frame rate of file. Select 29.97.

If your video files are truly 24.000 and you are in a 23.976 project, and they are being pulled down, then it is a different issue.

    Please confirm.

Also make sure in the dialog window when you are selecting the folder that the format is not set to QuickTime. You need to make sure it is using R3D. Have you installed the RED AMA plug-in? If not, it will default to QuickTime.

  • The request for a QuickTime as 29.97 is more common as they use an I/O card to a monitor that only supports NTSC type output. If a computer monitor is used in a full screen configuration, then you are better off having the picture reference the same rate as audio edits in file (23.976) to ensure frame for frame accurate sound to pix editing.

July 23, 2011 at 11:46 am in reply to: Importing ALE

MC defaults to putting all files into MXF/1 until it reaches a certain number of files (I can’t remember right now) then flows over into a second folder MXF/2 etc. On some projects, I have started numbering my mediafiles at 10 leaving the first 9 for MC. So try the following (on a standalone system, not Unity):

Create a “10” folder in Avid Mediafiles/MXF folder
Copy MXF/DNxHD media to the folder
    Launch MC, open MediaTool
    Drag MXF files to bin

Check timecode at that point to ensure they are correct. This is what the system creating the media is inserting into the MXF file.

Open the ALE file and ensure that first frame of same clip is the same timecode. Perhaps there is an error in the ALE and not the MXF.

If correct, select clips in bin, go to import, set options on AL to “merge on known sources” (last option), then import ALE. All additional metadata in ALE that did not exist in MXF will now be attached to the files.

  • Is the AAF going to be used to link to the audio files? Of so, that should be 23.976 as that is what the edit was done at. Perhaps they are asking for a 29.97 video file for reference?

Which system created the ALE files? What was the master file format to begin with before transcoding to DNXHD 36?

There is no automation or scripting in Media Composer, console or not. This is usually done with third party applications as you mention.

  • Doesn’t matter – both the dongle or the license number can run on Mac or PC. Their copy of MC should have both installers. If software license, the need to de-authorize first.
