It’s not a plug in, but there is countdown leader on your FCP install disks. At least there used to be. There is a version for NTSC, PAL, 29.97 and 23.98.

Are you sure it wasn’t an Avid Cut List that listed SMPTE code instead of film frames. Avid Cut lists can have the shot icons in a column is you want. I don’t think the Avid EDL manager gives you that option, at least not the last time I was on on Avid (several years ago). I cut on Avid’s for 10 years before jumping ship over the FCP.

Since you didn’t specify a budget I would say go for the HDCAM SR format. If that doesn’t suit your needs then try the Thompson Vipercam.
If you need something more in the mid-budget arena I would suggest either the new HVX-200 P2 system from Panasonic or the XDCAMHD from Sony for a little more money. Canon also has the XL1HD and JVC has their 100 camera. For low budget HDV work you can look into the Sony HDV cameras.Follow Walters post and give us a few more details. There are forums that support most of those cameras and systems here on the Cow. You can get more info there.

Did you delete any plug-ins recently. BCC comes to mind. Try trashing the Boris prefs.

I’ve got the 17″ little brother of this model and it’s pretty sweet. But all the shortcomings of the 17″ have been fixed in the new 26″. I saw it at NAB and boy is it NICE!! I’ve taken the 17″ with me on remote edits, and it works great on location. When the the 26″ actually starts shipping I’ll have to trade up. Cost isn’t too bad either, considering what you get for the price.

Upconvert from SD to HDV. Ouch. The man is a masochist! Listen to Walter and save yourself hours of render time and headache. Go with the DVCPro HD codec for offline.

You should look into the program Studio Artist. I’ve been using it for years with great results. It’s not a plug in, rather a stand alone app. Check their web site for examples. Amazing stuff.

There is no automatic way for the timeline to scroll, but you can hold the mouse button over the right scroll arrow on the lower right of the timeline and hold the mouse key. This will scroll the timeline without pausing playback. Basically, the answer to your questions is, No.

Make sure that your sequence setting hasn’t somehow reverted to “Filed Dominance: None” It should be set to Lower for NTSC DV.
