  • During Capture FCP will not become active window

Posted by Knoxville on May 26, 2006 at 4:29 pm

I recently installed FCP HD. I have a G5 and am capturing mini dv and vhs via sony dsr 11.
when I try to capture anything it begins to capture. but if any other software (finder included) is made active I can no longer make FCP active. This means I can’t hit escape to end the capture. I end up needing to force quit and thus lose what I have just captured. Any ideas? Thanks

[Knoxville] “if any other software (finder included) is made active I can no longer make FCP active”

Don’t mean to sound trite, but don’t make anything else active whilst you capture. It’s pretty likely to disrupt the capture process anyway.

FCP takes up almost all system resources when digitizing or playing back video. This is pretty normal as video is fairly demanding in terms of system bandwidth.

I usually surf the web while batch capturing in DV format all the time if I’m on a G5. G4 would be pushing it.

Some tasks even works for me on a G4 dual 1.46. I may have a lot to do with the amount of ram.

Not saying it won’t, just saying it isn’t recommended.

Happened to me last night while capturing DVCAM, but after repeatedly clicking on the application and hitting Esc several times, I was able to abort capture.

Cmnd/Tab to get back to FCP. Works every time. Ignore what the Finder is telling you. We routinely work in other apps while digitizing. ETT is a different story. Not advisable.
