Just sort by timecode. That will sort by the order they were shot. There is a very logical method to the naming of the clips.

Is there a reason that you can’t just deliver a QT H.264 file for PC use also. If the PC user has iTunes installed they have QT7 which will play the QT file. QT7 is just a click and free download away at http://www.apple.com/quicktime

What codec are you working in? You didn’t give us much information to go on. I’ve never experienced this problem with DV or uncomprssed media. However, this is a known issue with P2 material imported into FCP from the HVX200 camera. The fix was to upgrade to 5.1.1 and reimport your media.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the obvious, but in the Kona Control Panel, under the Digital In, is the audio set to Embedded or AES/EBU. I believe it defaults to AES, not Embedded.

Thanks Dean for doing your test. That was a nagging question I’ve had as we do a lot of online and offline work over here. The test you just did will make me sleep easier at night.
I’m flying to Poland and the Ukraine to start shooting a documentary. I’ll be using my HVX-200 for the shoot. My Polish cameraman has never heard of the camera, not surprising. I’ll be using a P2 Store, P2 Genie, and P2 Log for my initial workflow. Backup will be to multiple drives at the end of every evening. Just knowing that FCP is smart enough to relink to media managed MXF/QT files makes this workflow just that much easier. Will all the online issues FCP has it’s nice to see this feature works as intended.Michael Alberts

If you used Compressor to do your MPEG2 encode what most likely happened was the fields got reversed. When you drop a ref file, or QT clip in to Compressor it automatically chooses the field order. In most cases this would need to be “lower”. However, I’ve noticed Compresser get’s it’s “Auto” mode wrong about 30% of the time. It will often choose “upper” and thus screw up your MPEG encode just as you describe. If you look at the motion in your DVD in slow motion you will notice the fields jumping backwards as the video plays. It will play the upper, then lower when it should be playing the lower, then upper. DV is always recorded lower field first. HD is upper field first. Compresser often guesses wrong.
In compressor, after selecting the 90 min preset just check the Inspector to make sure that it’s set to “lower”.Michael Alberts

Check to see if you have any “Diabled Clips” in the timeline. I’ve noticed that even though the effects may be rendered, if there are disabled clips the ETT function like to re-render the material where the disabled clips are located.

Why bother with 10 bit when you’re only capturing from BetaSP? If your’e working with some extreme graphics with lots of subtle gradients than maybe I could understand. Also, I doubt your drive is up to the task of capturing 10 bit chunks of video longer than 10-30 seconds. You had either get faster drives (SATA, Fibre or SCSI) or stick with 8 bit.

Try controlling the deck via RS-422 and see if you get frame accurate assemble edits that way.

I had this same problem happen to me several weeks ago. My IT guy came in and suppoidly “tuned” my XServe RAID. I’m not sure he’s the one to blame however. If you select all the proper settings in the Apple article and then choose the “Restart” drive feature the settings go back to the default position, which you DON’T want. The default check boxes will cause the problem you are seeing.
Moral of the story is don’t restart your RAID without double checking the settings afterwords.Michael Alberts
