  • No Audio out of K-Box

So, I finally got the Raid configured properly and can now digitize longer clips (see previous post). I’m coming in from DBC with embedded audio. VU meters are showing the audio but during capture the only playback I get is through the built in speaker on the G5 even though I have audio playback set to AJA Kona. Once the clips are digitized, I still see the bouncing VU meters but now I get no audio from any speakers at all.

Can anybody think of a good reason that the analog audio monitor out on the front of the K-Box wouldn’t want to work? I have it simply plugged into a home theater type of receiver, no mixing board or anything too fancy.

Have you set the “Sound” in the Mac’s “System Preferences” to the K-box?

The K-box itself does not show up as an option, however I do have it set to AJA Kona in the System Preferences

I meant to say “AJA” not K-Box.

OK, then, are you seeing VIDEO output from FCP via the AJA?

yes, i am monitoring video out of the k-box to an external broadcast monitor. audio for the clip playing in my timeline (or viewer) has the VU meters bouncing. there is just no audible audio

Then I am guessing that you have an improper connection from the AJA to your monitor amp, or the monitor amp is in the wrong “input” (is the “Tape Monitor” button pushed?

Try this, find a way to connect some headphones (plug adapters) directly to the audio output of the AJA (it will be very LOW LEVEL) and see if any audio is getting out of the AJA.

tried that, still nothing coming out of tha k-box. i’ve even tried using the line out off the back of the G5 and plugging that into the same input on the receiver and audio comes through that way no problem. are there any kona prefs to trash or something like that?

i am running the latest drivers, i downloaded and installed them last night

Is the volume turned on on your Mac? Have you muted the audio by accident on the keyboard?

yes the volume is up. i know that audio is getting out of the mac since i can use the direct line off the back and hear it through the receiver

so as a last ditch effort, i’ve pulled the K3 card out and re-seated it. this looks to have solved the problem. now for a layback test (fingers and everything else crossed).

thanks evereybody for your help trouble shooting. it’s saturday and i’m trying to get this system fully operational before monday morning so my brain isn’t working at full speed.

    thanks again,

    jeff

    From the old engineers handbook:

“When all else fails, try plugging it in.”
