I noticed you were only giving the deck a 3 second pre-roll. Try setting the pre-roll to 4 or 5 seconds. See if that helps.

If you really want the easiest way, use BCC 3 or BCC4’s Witness Protection filter. It even motion tracks the object. Doesn’t get any easier than that.

No RAID needed for 720p 24 DVCPro100. Just use a FW800 drive such as the GRAID. Data rate is minimal; something like 10MB/sec. Use the Digital Heaven Widget to calculate your storage requrements.

If you want a full frame 4:3 center punch go with the method suggested by Wayne. There is no loss of quality using this method. We also use a hardware aspect ratio converter to do this, but the results look identical.

Are you editing your 24P footage in a 29.97 timeline? If so you will get an uneven, stuttery looking speed up or Slo-Mo. You’ll notice it more if you slow down the footage. If you want it to look as clean as it can be in FCP you should be editing at the native frame rate. There are other tools that do better slo-mo’s and speed ups. Boris BCC has the Optical Flow filter for FCP that looks good. AE 7 has improved on it’s speed motion. Twixtor comes to mind also.

FCP 5/CinemaTools 3 does support 3 perf film editing/conforming. I’ve got several friends doing 3 perf features right now. These are all in NTSC. I have to assume that CT supports 3 perf in PAL.

A 20 minute video with 8-12 tracks (semi-full) should take at most about 5 miutes. It just depends on how full those tracks are.

Just a few questions to start. Did you offline you DV project at 23.98 or 29.97? What’s the sequene setting for the HD Online; 23.98 or 29.97. How was your project moved over to the Online; EDL or FCP Project file? Was the offline at drop frame or non-drop. Do like Jerry recomened and read the CT manual. Hopefully the facility that did your online has some answers, it’s their job.
